Accurate detection of fine damage in composite materials is essential for advancing research and engineering practices in various industries. This study introduces a novel method for detecting fine damage by integrating Digital Volume Correlation (DVC) and U-Net. X-ray computed tomography (XCT) images are analyzed to correlate microstructural featu...

Self-healing is one of the research hotspots in composite materials, but evaluating healing performance has always been challenging. This study proposed a novel method to distinguish between mechanically healed cracks and unhealed cracks with non-adhesion filling by utilizing in-situ X-ray computed tomography (XCT) and digital volume correlation (D...

The integrality and connectivity of detected cracks are critical to quantitatively analyzing the fracture patterns of cementitious materials using X-ray computed tomography (XCT). Owing to noise, uneven gray values, pores, and other additions with gray values similar to those of the cracks in the raw images, image segmentation results of microcrack...

In order to improve the plasticity of composites, rubber is usually incorporated in cement composites, but the rubber greatly increases complexity in the analysis of internal structures. In this study, X-ray computed tomography (XCT) and digital volume correlation (DVC) were adopted to investigate the internal structure and volumetric strain of rub...

In order to improve the ductilityof cement-based materials, rubber is often added to cement-based materials. But the rubber-cement interface will introduce more initial defects, and make the three dimensional images obtained by the X-ray micro-computed tomography (X-ray μCT) technology more complex, and finally, which leads to the full threshold me...

As a combination of a brittle cement matrix and ductile rubber particles, rubberized concrete has complex fracture characteristics at the microscale level. To better understand the fracture pattern of rubberized concrete, in this study, a novel image processing method is developed to extract the cracks in the specimens accurately, especially the mi...

Due to the complexity of the interior of a rubber-cement composites, its internal stress/strain is very complex. In this study, a digital volume correlation based on X-ray computed tomography was used to obtain the interior volumetric displacement and volumetric strain of the rubber-cement composites under uniaxial compression. The results showed t...

Question
The global higher education sector is undergoing upheaval as COVID-19 forces domestic students off campuses, out of labs and into a world of virtual learning.
Question
During my first and postgraduate years, my circle of friends included several people who were studying for their PhD. It was easy to see how our lives had changed. My day was full of classes and assignments (and quite a bit of free time), most of their free time. Or so I thought. They got paid to study, and I did not get paid for my efforts. So, the grass is definitely green in the PhD patch.
Question
If you have certain qualities, your path to scientific research will be easier, these are the people who are better suited to scientific research.
