The one-pot synthesis of three dragmacidin derivatives is reported. Sarcosine anhydride (4) is brominated and immediately reacted with the corresponding indole to produce the products, namely 3,6-bis(5'-methoxy-3'-indolyl)-1,4-dimethylpiperazine-2,5-dione (1), 3,6-bis(7'-methyl-3'-indolyl)-1,4-dimethylpiperazine-2,5-dione (2) and 3,6-bis-(6'-chloro...

An in-class molecular modeling exercise is described. Groups of students are given molecular models to investigate and questions about the models to answer. This exercise is a quick and effective way to review nomenclature, stereochemistry, and conformational analysis. Keywords (Audience): Second-Year Undergraduate

The one-pot synthesis of 3,6-bis(5’-bromo-3’-indolyl)-1,4-dimethylpiperazine- 2,5-dione is reported. Sarcosine anhydride is brominated and immediately reacted with 5-bromoindole to produce the product, which is characterized by 1H NMR, MS and microanalysis.

An improved procedure for the large-scale preparation of 3,6-bis(3'-indolyl)-l,4-dimethylpiperazine-2,5-dione is presented.

The development of a novel route for the synthesis of a new class of compounds is described. The first tripodal, tris-indole amines are prepared by straightforward routes.

The title compound, C18H18N2O2, crystallizes in the centrosymmetric monoclinic space group C2/c with half the molecule as the asymmetric unit (molecules are located on inversion centers). π–π interactions between the benzene rings are found, with a perpendicular distance of 3.657 (11) Å between ring centroids.
Article
A simple total synthesis of dragmacidin B is described. This constitutes the first synthesis of a member of the 2,5-bis(3′-indolyl)piperazine family of marine alkaloids. The didebromo analog of dragmacidin B was also prepared.
