Introduction
My research focuses on citizen science projects and the exploration of wildlife. I am particularly interested in engaging the public in scientific research to promote awareness and conservation of biodiversity.
I believe wildlife photography is an invaluable method in my work. It serves as a visual record of species and behaviors and helps communicate scientific findings to a broader audience, bridging the gap between science and the public.

Sharks in the Mediterranean Sea are facing an elevated risk of extinction; several species are considered endangered and some have been reduced to such low population numbers that they are hard to detect through conventional monitoring methods. The recent emergence of new technologies, such as social media, makes it easier to collect and transmit i...
Wild boar (Sus scrofa) is a globally-distributed species with significant impacts on both natural ecosystems and human activities. Traditional methods for excluding wild boar, such as electric fencing, can be expensive and may have limited efficacy. In recent years, red-white tape has emerged as a potential low-cost and easy-to-install alternative...
A rapid and extensive range expansion of the golden jackal has recently been documented in continental Europe, raising new policy and legal questions and creating an urgent need to understand the mechanisms underlying this distribution change. Because of human persecution, the jackal population in Greece went through a serious bottleneck and is the...
The aim of this study provides a retrospective analysis of the recorded shark attacks in Greece over the last 180 years. Data on recorded shark attacks in Greece were obtained from various sources. A total of 15 shark attacks were identified and analysed. The majority of the attacks occurred in the waters off islands or coasts, with the highest inc...
Oculina patagonica, a scleractinian coral species originally from the South Atlantic, has increasingly established itself in the Mediterranean Sea, where it is considered invasive. This study documents the first confirmed record of O. patagonica in the Pagasetic Gulf, near Volos, Greece, and compiles data on its broader expansion across Greek water...
Scotland's cold waters, contrary to common beliefs, are home to a rich diversity of shark species. This study leverages citizen science data from platforms such as iNaturalist and GBIF to document 12 shark species found in these waters. Over a period of 145 years, we analyzed 3,844 verified observations, cross-checked by marine biologists and offic...
Understanding wildlife behavior is crucial for effective conservation and management. However, studying the behavior of
diverse species presents challenges due to their complexity and the availability of data. To address this, we present a universal
indicator for assessing the ease of humans learning wildlife behavior. This indicator incorporates s...
During the week of July 25-30, 2023, a comprehensive biodiversity survey was conducted at 'Tris Klissies' beach in Ios island. The survey engaged 26 participants, including volunteers and crew members from the BiodiversityGR summer school. Employing freediving techniques, participants explored the cold waters day and night, aiming to assess both ma...
Elasmobranchs, including the common stingray, are pivotal components of marine ecosystems, yet much remains to be understood about their habitat requirements and life history characteristics. The identification and investigation of nursery areas are critical for effective conservation and management, as these areas offer essential resources for the...
A new species of sea urchin with similarities to Arbacia lixula (Linnaeus, 1758) has been discovered in a sea cave at the remote beach of “Radakia” on the eastern coast of central Greece. The species has been recorded inside a huge sea cave (39°08'23.8"N 23°17'54.0"E) at depth of 1 meter with pebbles substrate. The new species scientific name is su...

A jellyfish bloom of the Mauve Stinger (Pelagia noctiluca) in Aegean was the urgent reason to create a custom google map to inform the citizens of Greece for this jellyfish outbreak in our beaches, without the Greek government care for the situation neither for their citizens. A citizen science project where citizens give us their observations and...

A different project of monitoring the behavior of the species Sus scrofa since 2018 in the area of Liri, a village in central Greece, with different camera types (security camera, trap camera, and smart doorbell with camera). Liri is a small village with Olive tree farming for a profit with scattered small forests around the olive tree farms and in...
Engagement of citizens is not something new, even the biggest researchers in history were citizens without proper education of wildlife or biology. But in the last five decades things are changing rapidly in every direction, especially with the biodiversity loss.
Now, in 21st century, it’s more urgent to record as many species we can, before they...
Discover and learn about the unknown world of sharks. They exist before the dinosaurs and they have been used in every culture, from mythology and history to the present still able to bring fear to people but few people only know them truthfully.
Explaining how to use iNaturalist properly.
The presentation is a speed talk for the abstract: "iNaturalist: a tool that helps conservationists and researchers and connects citizen scientists" on IMCC6 Conference.
Greece has a coastline of 14.800 km with over 6000 islands and islets which only 117 are inhabited. Also the good, hot and sunny weather in the summer in Greece is more than 5 months, from May to early of October, which people are enjoying it in the beaches and are able to record marine biodiversity.
Greece coastal habitat has a lot of different s...

Specimens of Bursatella leachii Blainville, 1817 were photographed from Katigiorgis coast of central Greece at depths of up to 4 m and the maximum number of this species was recorded at a depth of 2 m (39?10'20.3"N 23?20'36.4"E) on a sandy soil bed. A thorough research survey on the species revealed this study to be the first report of its occurren...
These observations are for Jellyfish in Greece by citizens (citizen science project) for 2018.
For this project was created the facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/medouses/, which the most of those observations are coming from this group. Other observations in this database are from newspapers, inaturalist, and social media.
The ferocious image of sharks as fearsome predators of the sea has been shaped during human history through the predatory ecology of the animal inspiring various classical myths and contemporary movies. Greece hosts a high diversity of shark species with some been critically endangered. Thus is important to evaluate the perception and the awareness...

Does anyone have library citations with a Bibtex or endnote files about wildlife behavior?
Or where anyone can find similar libraries?
I am interested to add it to Mendeley Reference Management I have on my PC.
I am working since 2018 on monitoring wild boar behavior through security cameras and smart doorbells in residential areas.
I was wondering if anyone had worked on a similar project? and if anyone has any suggestions to improve it for better results?
