Introduction
As Director of the Centre for Children and Young People’s Participation, University of Central Lancashire I facilitate and supervise co-research with children and young people. Our focus is on challenging discrimination and improving law, policy and practice. I write about theories of childhood, citizenship and participation. Active in the field of chldren’s rights since 1997, I work particularly with children who are in alternative care, disabled or Roma, conducting more than 30 funded research studies (in the UK, across Europe and in Japan). I have authored peer reviewed articles, chapters, books and practitioner guides that are used internationally. I am Convenor of the European Sociological Association Childhood Network and regular advise national and European governments.
