Introduction
Serra Húnter Fellow at URV and member of ASTERISC. Communication Research Group. Between 2013 and 2016 I was engaged in the project ‘The role of metaphor in the social definition and perception of conflictive issues’ in which my PhD thesis [Claiming independence in 140 characters. In the context of the political instability shown by the calling of four general elections between 2015 and 2019, the populist party Vox gained parliamentary seats for the first time in a country that, thus far, had always remained outside of European trends. When populism, and especially the presence of far-right parties, are taken into account as...

Different from the participatory consultation of 9 November 2014, the Spanish Government treated the referendum held in Catalonia on 1 October 2017 as a case of disobedience Cetrà et al. 2018) and this resulted in the use of security forces to prevent people from voting. On 28 October 2017, following the symbolic vote of the Catalan parliament that...

The refugee crisis in Europe is one of the most complex issues on the public agenda.
