Introduction
Hello there, my name is Carlos, and I’m a Ph.D. and Electrical Civil Engineer interested in Image Processing, Pattern Recognition, and Teaching. My career has been developed around projects that involve high technology and innovation in automation systems in medicine, mining, and retail. My Ph.D. thesis focused on detecting complex patterns using color and texture features.

Introduction: This study explores the psychological effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on elderly Chileans, focusing on the role of social isolation (SI), loneliness, depressive symptoms, and pandemic-related concerns. With 150 participants, our cross-sectional descriptive study revealed significant relationships between SI, loneliness, depressive sy...
This search began playfully ten years ago from a shared concern. In this short period of time, we can verify that some of these plaques no longer exist, and some of the streets have had another name change.
INTRODUCTION
Age‐related hearing loss is an important risk factor for cognitive decline. However, audiogram thresholds are not good estimators of dementia risk in subjects with normal hearing or mild hearing loss. Here we propose to use distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAEs) as an objective and sensitive tool to estimate the risk of cogn...

Quantitative descriptions of multi-cellular structures from optical microscopy imaging are prime to understand the variety of three-dimensional (3D) shapes in living organisms. Experimental models of vertebrates, invertebrates and plants, such as zebrafish, killifish, Drosophila or Marchantia, mainly comprise multilayer tissues, and even...
Vision Transformers (ViTs) have successfully been applied to image classification problems where large annotated datasets are available. On the other hand, when fewer annotations are available, such as in biomedical applications, image augmentation techniques like introducing image variations or combinations have been proposed. However, regarding V...
Age-related hearing loss (presbycusis) at moderate levels (>40 dB HL) has been recognized as an important risk factor for cognitive decline. However, whether individuals with mild hearing loss (audiogram thresholds between 25 and 40 dB HL) or even those with normal audiograms (<25 dB HL) have a higher risk of dementia is still debated. Importantly,...
Automating the data and calculations obtained from echocardiography analysis in a murine model using digital image processing and deep learning.
It is feasible to process the image to automatically extract information from measurements, thereby reducing the likelihood of errors and significantly saving time that would otherwise be unnecessarily co...
Many applications in image analysis require the accurate classification of complex patterns including both color and texture, e.g., in content image retrieval, biometrics, and the inspection of fabrics, wood, steel, ceramics, and fruits, among others. A new method for pattern classification using both color and texture information is proposed in th...
Abstract— Estimation of rock composition in mining plants is important for determining rock size and grindability which, in turn, may improve control of the grinding process. Variations in ore grindability and size distribution directly affect a mill’s power consumption and throughput. It is therefore highly desirable to develop new methods to esti...
There are many applications in image analysis where it is important to detect accurately patterns that include color and texture, e.g., plastic or concrete traffic barriers. This paper proposes a new method and extends a general machine vision approach for on-line pattern detection using color and textural information. Our proposed method includes...
Lithological classification is important to improve control of the grinding process in a mining plant. Based on the lithological classification the hardness of the mineral can be estimated and mill operation can be optimized. In this paper we proposed a method for rock lithological classification based on Gabor texture analysis and support vector m...
In mineral processing plants it is important to estimate rock composition, size and grindability to improve control of the grinding process. It is well known that variation in ore grindability and size distribution directly affects mills power consumption and throughput. This paper extends a general machine vision approach for on-line estimation of...
