This project focuses the research on the Copernican turn in scientific and educational policy in the years of accelerated growth of Francoist developmentalism and its effects on different spheres. It is therefore articulated in two large areas: on the one hand, the educational and
scientific policy and, on the other, their incidence in different sectors.
The first area prioritizes the research on the radical turn in science and education policy that began at the end of the 1950s and that
contradicted the principles of subsidiarity maintained by the regime for almost two decades. The balances between the different groups
that made up the Franco regime and their positions, and their interaction with the expansive dynamics of the State, will be investigated. In this sense, special attention will be paid to the confessional sectors and the Falangists, traditionally confronted in educational matters. The reception and adaptation of the educational and scientific discourses of international organizations by these groups will occupy a prominent place in the research, as well as the influence of other international factors such as American modernizing models or French planning.
The second area addresses the research of the effects of the new policy on six areas: science and the CSIC, primary education, high
school, professional training, pedagogical modernization and women. This sectoral research will allow us to offer a global vision of the
great changes that Spanish education underwent in the sixties, which we lack until now, and to analyse the real scope of ministerial
policies on the reality of men and women.
Finally, the project intends to insert the Spanish case into the framework of international educational expansion and, specifically, of the great changes that have occurred in the traditionally economically and educationally backward European countries: southern Europe plus
Ireland.
