Research has shown that early childhood care and education (ECCE) can improve children’s development. Training of in-service teachers is a good strategy to maximize the quality of ECCE, but in Mexico, teachers consider that in-service training is not particularly relevant. To counter this tendency, The Mexican Educational System designed and implem...

In discourses and policy documents on school improvement, in-service teacher training is usually stated as one of the key elements to enhance the quality of teaching and overall school functioning (Buchberger, Campos, Kallós and Stephenson, 2000). In order to establish this relationship between teaching and quality, it is necessary to understand ho...
While entrepreneurship education increasingly uses various means to connect students to the ‘real world’, the impact of social networking on learning remains underexplored. This qualitative study of student entrepreneurs in the United Kingdom and Sweden shows that their entrepreneurial journey becomes increasingly complex, requiring skills and know...

Methodology: It draws on quantitative data from the 2012 PIAAC (Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies) survey in a European sample of 276 respondents,...
The lack of teaching professionals with continuous training affects quality in educational systems and quality of teaching. That is why we believe that teachers must increase or improve their professional competences once they have finished their initial training. To do so, learning strategies are needed, but they vary according to training aspirat...

At the heart of adult education there is informal learning; the one acquired through professional practice and propelled by challenges that appear in daily activities (Fernández-de-Álava, 2014; Marsick & Watkins, 1990; Marsick, Fernández-de-Álava, & Watkins, 2015). In this chapter we develop a theoretical framework for understanding informal learni...

Continuous and lifelong learning is a need of current society –it requires a deeper knowledge that goes beyond formal training of adults (Comisión Europea, 1995; Consejo de la Unión Europea, 1975; Delors, 1996; Marsick & Watkins, 1990). In fact, those learning ways that do not depend on a trainer or structured processes are increasingly usual and v...
Transfer of learning has recently drawn attention in the field of continuous training; however, assessing its effectiveness is still a challenge for scientists and practitioners. One way to approach transfer of training evaluation is the method known as 'direct evaluation', which consists in developing specific tools or techniques to assess knowled...
The instability of the labor market along with decreasing investment of organizations in the training of their employees emphasizes the need for workers who can adapt and successfully transfer their learning to the workplace.
Understanding behavior change after training is a complex endeavour in science. Although motivation theories provide avenues for understanding why individuals change their behavior after training, training research has adopted those theories sporadically, resulting in a fragmented understanding of trainee motivation. This study aims to present a un...

Based on a previous study (Feixas and Zellweger, 2010), a Questionnaire on Factors Conditioning Learning Transfer of Teacher’s Training has been designed and applied to participa...
Learning transfer is the main goal that organizations look for, when they invest in training. Due to the difficulty to evaluate transfer directly, many authors have already created different models of transfer factors, which allow diagnosing the aspects that facilitate or hinder transfer. Nevertheless, there is little evidence that these factors ar...

Drawing on social cognitive theory, the study tested the effects of single-player versus multi-player simulations on self-efficacy and transfer of learning by psychometrically cumulating 25 years of research with a total sample size of N=2,274. Preliminary results indicate no significant difference between conditions. Implications for computer-base...
The current research highlights the need to find alternative ways to measure learning transfer by means of diagnosis of barriers and facilitators of training effectiveness (Baldwin & Ford, 1988 [1]; Noe, 1988 [2]; Pineda et al., 2010 [3]; Quesada et al., 2011 [4]). We developed the MEVIT model, a 40 items, 5-point Likert scale questionnaire measuri...

In this paper are presented the results of the ETAPE study, whose aim is to evaluate the effectiveness of continuing training in public administration in Spain. To evaluate that, the FET model was applied to show how factors influence the tran sfer of training to the workplace. FET-ETAPE questionnaire (Pineda, Quesada & Ciraso, 2011) is one of the...
Leadership abilities, and especially social abilities related to emotional intelligence are key factors to team management and the performance increase it generates in companies. For this reason, leadership training is an essential part of development plans in organizations. Also applying learning to work place is equally important. Evaluating lear...
E-learning is an important component of Continuous Training and companies grant e-learning a growing role in HRD. Nonetheless, assessing the quality of e-learning is not a common enough practice. Evaluating the efficacy of training should be a critical step in training planning, yet it is an isolated practice (ASTD 2009). This article presents the...
In the context of the current economic crisis it is essential to provide effective training to employees as the key to enhance their employability and to improve the competitiveness of organizations. In Spain there are very few companies that assess transfer of training to the workplace, although this is the clearest measure of the effectiveness of...

Dear colleagues!
My colleagues (from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the Spanish National Distance University) and I are working on a meta-analysis on problematic internet use (PIU) among teen-agers. Specifically, we would like the study the correlation between some family factors (such as family functioning, behavioral and psychological control, parenting styles, parent-adolescent relationships) and PIU, among European adolescents.
Unfortunately we don’t have anything in English about our research. In case you or your colleagues understand Spanish, please find in attachment a poster with some of our preliminary results.
We found the research on Internet addictive behaviors among European adolescents, in which you participated, we read some papers of yours and we couldn’t find results related on these specific family variables; but we were wondering if there is data available which was not published, that we could use in the meta-analysis.
