Introduction

Project
The aim of this project is to investigate the competence of physics teachers in perceiving and dealing with critical situations (noticing) in physics lessons. Our theoretical foundation is based on the PID model (Perception - Interpretation - Decision-making; Kaiser et al. 2015). The model attempts to close the gap between teacher cognition and motivation on the one hand and concrete performance in the classroom on the other. Furthermore, there are legitimate indications that a variety of factors can influence teachers' noticing, e.g. teaching experiences, content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge. The focus of this project is the question of whether the construct of noticing can be reliably and validly measured with a video vignette test (called PUPiL). In addition to the completed doctoral thesis "Entwicklung und Validierung eines Instruments zur Erfassung der professionellen Unterrichtswahrnehmung angehen Physiklehrkräfte" (Development and Validation of an Instrument for Assessing the Professional Teaching Perceptions of Prospective Physics Teachers), the English-language article "Teachers' professional vision in teaching physics - a validation study" was written. At the moment, desiderata regarding decision making are being researched.
