Introduction
PhD Candidate looking into how krill and zooplankton grazers exploit sea-ice habitat to understand reactions to sea-ice seasonality and coverage changes. I'm using biomarkers (stable isotopes, highly branched isoprenoids, lipids, eDNA, DNA) to build quick and repeatable approaches for characterising krill and zooplankton predation across large geographical and temporal dimensions; and looking at how this approach can be incorporated into krill monitoring programs.

Coastal Antarctic ecosystems feature long periods of sea ice cover, strong seasonality in primary production, and low biodiversity relative to marginal ice zone regions. There are few records of annual cycles of biodiversity and abundance of neritic Antarctic zooplankton, limiting the ability to predict how communities will respond to environmental...
Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba) aggregations are important in the Southern Ocean ecosystem; however, the amount of energy that krill swarms contain is unknown. We assessed the population structure of E. superba swarms in East Antarctica for two different sectors corresponding to the study areas of the ENRICH (2019) and TEMPO (2021) voyages. We...
Climate change could irreversibly modify Southern Ocean ecosystems. Marine ecosystem model (MEM) ensembles can assist policy making by projecting future changes and allowing the evaluation and assessment of alternative management approaches. However, projected changes in total consumer biomass from the Fisheries and Marine Ecosystem Model Intercomp...
Media...
