Introduction
My research focuses on re-designing the existing learning technologies following the principles of the traditional and modern learning theories, in order to support learners’ experiences and their learning outcomes. I had worked on enhancing collaborative learning tools to support peer mentorship, dynamics of trust in group peer mentorship, group formation algorithm for learning in small groups, collaborative learning using modified wikis and peer review management system. I currently work as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Alberta.

Recent reports suggest an increase in the number of individuals with cognitive and developmental disabilities. To ensure equal opportunities for these learners, special education practices must be appropriately improved and scaled. Educational and assistive technologies are a possible avenue for meeting this need. To provide insight into recent tec...
The problem of assigning learners to groups is essential in collaborative venture like group peer mentorship. Usually, in group peer mentorship, the group of peers is focused on one topic or question, and engage in discussion, argumentation, and providing criticism and constructive feedback, related to the individual contributions made by the parti...
Group peer mentorship is a collaborative learning venture where peers are both mentors and mentees. Existing work had shown that trust is vital in building a strong mentoring relationship. In this research, we implemented a modified peer review process with a group of professional accountants, to support them in group peer mentorship. Our goal was...
Peer review is the main mechanism for quality evaluation and peer-mentoring in the research community. Yet, it has been criticized with respect to its summative function, as being prone to bias and inconsistency and approaches had been proposed to improve it (e.g. double blind review). However, relatively less attention has been paid on how well it...
Use of wikis in education reflects a shift in the education paradigm from lecture and individual homework-based to a paradigm emphasizing student engagement and the construction of knowledge through collaboration and peer-help. Existing research work on the use of wiki in collaborative writing had given mixed results. The goals of this research are...
Different classifications of Wiki editor have been proposed. However, so far there
has been no mapping between user classes based on their contributions and their motivations,
which can be useful to design persuasive functions in wiki systems to increase participation.
In this study, we attempt to bridge this gap by developing a customized MediaWik...
Traditionally, ethics of a profession or organization are laid down by their pioneers, or subtly emerge over time as the organization advance. Getting conversant to these ethics requires teaching new or upcoming professionals, in order to avoid any form of misconduct, either deliberately or unknowingly. Peer review has been used as a quality contro...
As we are entering the age of open social e-learning environments, group (peer) mentorship becomes an increasingly important mode of learning. The academic peer review system can be viewed as a group mentorship system. Peer reviews have been used for over a century by the research community to provide not only quality control for publishing new res...
Existing online mentorship systems typically match mentors and mentees manually. Recommender systems can be used to match mentors and mentees and trust and reputation mechanisms can be used to improve the deci-sion process. This paper discusses the state-of-the-art in online mentorship sys-tems, recommender systems, and trust and reputation mechani...
