Introduction
I'm currently working on a new type of human identification using digital palate scanning. Our method won a Semmelweis Innovation Award in 2019 and a research grant from the American Society of Forensic Odontology in 2020, 2021 and 2023. I strongly believe in the power of digital dentistry, which can also be effective in human identification through science.

Aims: The aim of this study was to compare two existing methods and one novel method for measuring the distortion of three-dimensional (3D) models created with complete-arch digital impressions, and to assess the accuracy of different scan patterns using these methods. Materials and methods: Maxillary and mandibular models were imaged with the Plan...

Background This study aims to validate a machine learning algorithm previously developed in a training population on a different randomly chosen population (i.e., test set). The discrimination potential of the palatal intraoral scan-based geometric and superimposition methods was evaluated. Methods A total of 23 participants (16 females and seven...

Intraoral scanning of the palate is considered reliable for human identification; however, its accuracy on postmortem tissue remains dubious. This study aimed to investigate the effect of tissue decomposition on the precision of the intraoral scanner and the deviation of the scan. Ten fresh lamb (Ovies aries) maxillae were either unwashed or washed...

Background: Symmetry is critical in perceived attractiveness, especially in female faces. The palate determines the teeth' alignment and supports facial soft tissues. Therefore, the study aimed to assess the effects of sex, orthodontic treatment, age, and heritability on the directional, anti-, and fluctuational asymmetry in the digital palatal mo...

Objectives: The palatal scans of the same individuals were compared after two years to assess forensic reproducibility. The effect of orthodontic treatment, the comparison area and the digitization approach were investigated. Methods: The palate was scanned in 20 pairs of monozygotic twins by an intraoral scanner (IOS) three times to assess repe...

Objectives The study aimed to compare the precision of ATOS industrial, 3ShapeE4, MeditT710, CeramillMap400, CSNeo, PlanScanLab desktop, and Mediti700 intraoral scanners. The second aim was to compare the trueness of Mediti700 assessed by ATOS and desktop scanners. Methods Four plastic dentate models with 7-12 abutments prepared for complete arch...

Previous 3D superimposition studies of digital scans of the human palate, using geometric and surface morphology comparisons, have shown its usefulness in assisting in the identification process, including its ability to distinguish identical twins. This study aimed to evaluate the discriminative potential when only simple geometric analysis is use...

A modern kriminalisztika interdiszciplináris területe a tömegkatasztrófa áldozat azonosítás.

The exponential growth of digital technology in dentistry is inherently accompanied by a significant expansion of 2D and 3D dental image records. Traditional stone models are impractical to keep long-term due to storage volume and fragility. Comprehensive and accurate models offer an excellent record of the preoperative dentition for the complete...

Statement of problem The intraoral scanning of the edentulous arch might be challenging for an inexperienced operator because of the large mucosal area and the use of scan bodies. Purpose The purpose of this ex vivo study was to compare the trueness of 5 intraoral scanners in replicating implant scan bodies and soft tissues in an edentulous maxill...

Background: DNA base identification is a proper and high specificity method. However, identification could be challenged in a situation where there is no database or the DNA sequence is almost identical, as in the case of monozygotic (MZ) twins. The aim of this study was to introduce a novel forensic method for distinguishing between almost identi...

Background: Chairside systems are becoming more popular for fabricating full-ceramic single restorations, but there is very little knowledge about the effect of the entire workflow process on restoration fit. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the absolute marginal discrepancy (AMD) and the full internal fit (FULL) of all-ceramic crowns made b...

Backgrounds: Intraoral scanner (IOS) accuracy is commonly evaluated using full-arch surface comparison, which fails to take into consideration the starting position of the scanning (scan origin). Previously a novel method was developed, which takes into account the scan origin and calculates the deviation of predefined identical points between ref...

Background. Although local anesthesia (LA) is an imperative of modern dentistry, many dental students feel insufficiently prepared for administration of their first injection in a clinical setting. Augmented Reality (AR) is a technology that superimposes a computer-generated image on a user's view of the real world, thus providing a composite view....

Forensic dentistry dates back more than 200 years. Yet Oscar Amoedo, a Cuban-born dentist, is considered the father of forensic dentistry. He emphasized the dentists’ role in humans’ identification and laid down the general principles of dental identification in his dissertation in 1989. Dental experts must have interdisciplinary knowledge to do hi...
