Question
Just-In-Time management is a trendy way to deal with inventory in this day and age, brought to us by the Japanese Car manufacturers - namely Toyota.  It is being used in warehouses and factories all over, and some food chains have even started administering it.  With the unpredictability of the real estate market, is it possible to integrate it into the real estate sector?  I have this qualm about vacant buildings and abandoned buildings.  If they sit for too long they do, in essence, become waste because the building and the property deteriorates or get vandalized and then no one wants to purchase it.  However, what does one do with a property full of tar slab, cement slab and walls full of various chemicals of preserve?  Not much, so it really becomes a whole bunch of waste, even for the eyes.  So this has brought me to wonder if there is a possibility of administering Just-In_Time practices in real estate - even if it's just the way to reroute the property so that it does come to some use somehow.  I am looking for business solutions as well as policy that encourages Just-In-Time.  Please post anything you can think of :)
Question
Many times these hospitality corporations own establishments way beyond what we see as a place to sleep while we're out on vacation.  They run banquet halls, cafe's, luxury themed restaurants, gift shops, brand shops at vacation spots like theme parks and golf courses.  Some even own the golf course clubhouse or the tournament spinning a golf championship.  They own clothing lines and dining utensil factories.  So, what measures do these corporations have to take to ensure that those in direct contact with the consumers adhere not only to their own brand that they are selling through the hospitality corporation, but to the actual brand of that corporation at the same time?
Question
Many times employees on the bottom level are there to work because they want to feed their families.  they choose a work field that they are at least a little familiar with through their hobbies or through the volunteer work they were able to become acquainted with while they were minors.  Many times, these same employees fail to see the big picture regarding things like employee safety and risk management.  They don't see the chemicals as something that could mean their babies will come out deformed or that will keep them from having babies at all.  they aren't thinking that a ladder dance could potential knock their back out of commission for a lifetime of work sitting in a chair.  They don't' think that interrupting the process line to re-sew a "handmade" doll another way for their own artwork while showing off late at work in the middle of the evening will effect the supply chain, or even the process metrics at all. Still, these employees are trained before they start their work because its a requirement.  How much of the risk management process involves employee engagement, and how should employee engagement be defined in regards to the risk/safety/health management process?
Question
Each year of the previous space program, NASA used to hold an annual safety fair where workers that were part of the program (whether working for NASA itself or through one of it's contracted companies that supplied the space program and used NASA's facilities) and their families got to go on campus and view the different work stations at the facilities.  The work stations where set up to help visitors become aware of the different safety issues related to operating the program, and different measures taken to mitigate those risks.  There were displays, demonstrations, speeches, little trinkets to take home, all kinds of interesting things to get the workers and their families engaged in safety.  Safety was a large measure of the previous space program.  I am wondering if NASA still holds a safety fair, and if so how might it differ from the traditional set-up being that the space program now deals with private space flight on-top of NASA contracted flights.  Any data, including where I can find the data myself, would be helpful.
Question
Where can I find case study examples of collaborative capabilities for sensitive business structures between countries of opposing political structures?
I am looking at collaborative business. One of the things I need to study is how businesses collaborate with sensitive materials or scarce resources when the collaborative parts have headquarters operating under tightly controlling governments of opposing regulatory views/regulatory affiliations.
