Textbooks are an integral part of school classroom teaching. Their use has been researched for the past few decades with a focus on a wide variety of aspects. This paper is focused on the published literature relative to textbooks with a special focus on the pedagogical use of textbooks within school classroom of informatics. Sixty two papers of va...

Learning analytics deals with the data that occurs from students’ interaction with ICT: collecting data, analyzing and reporting can influence learning and teaching. Application of learning analytics for analyzing assessment has lagged behind other areas of application. We argue here for the need for learning analytics for assessment with special a...

This research has two main goals: to develop an instrument for assessing Electronic Portfolio (ePortfolio) success and to build a corresponding ePortfolio success model using DeLone and McLean's information systems success model as the theoretical framework. For this purpose, we developed an ePortfolio success measurement instrument and structural...
Chapter
This chapter presents the most important steps in the process of ePortfolio implementation at the Faculty of Organization and Informatics (FOI) at the University of Zagreb. Stemming from an announcement by 11 faculties from the University of Zagreb, the Centre for E-Learning at the University of Zagreb reports that eportfolio is now used by over 50...

EPortfolio offers a new philosophy of teaching and learning, giving the learner an opportunity to express oneself, to show one's past work and experience to all the interested parties ranging from teachers to potential employers. However, an integral model for ePortfolio implementation in academic institutions that would take into account three dif...
Conference Paper
This paper explores Critical Success Factors (CSFs) for successful implementation of the next generation of ePortfolio systems in academic institutions. CSFs are revised, based on the current ePortfolio literature, and updated based on our exploratory field research. In addition, relationship between CSFs and maturity levels is identified and discu...

In this paper, we deal with the analytic hierarchy process (AHP)-based group decision making using keypads. It is a way of aggregating group judgements that allows a group to enhance the validity of the outcome by including the importance of people's knowledge, expertise and experience, to accept the disparate power of its members when eliciting th...

The main objective of the paper is to investigate the performance of European countries in EUREKA “success stories” i.e. those especially successful projects. The Social Network Analysis (SNA) was used for the purpose of the analysis. We have conducted a research on a set of 188 EUREKA “success stories” published on the EUREKA website from January...
Article
This article reports on the research whose specific objective is to improve student retention in mathematics included in the first-year ICT study programme by means of improving teaching methods, with an emphasis on gender issues. Two principal reasons for this research are, first, the fact that first-year mathematics courses are often viewed as an...

In this paper geodesies and geodesic spheres in SL(2,R) geometry are considered. Exact solutions of ODE system that describes geodesies are obtained and discussed, geodesic spheres are determined and visualization of SL(2,R) geometry is given as well.

In this paper, discriminant analysis is used as a means of analysing the effect of 30 variables upon the dependent variable Student success at the Faculty of Organization and Informatics, University of Zagreb. The data were collected by a questionnaire administered on two occasions: in the academic year 2006/07, among second-year students of the un...

The prioritization of projects in higher education institutions is a complex decision-making problem. In this paper we deal with a problem of making a decision on whether to start a new project application, and if so, which project to choose in a situation where project teams have several project ideas and limited resources. The purpose of the pape...

Student and teacher mobility are important aspects of education within the Bologna Process. Overcoming the language barrier is a precondition for following and providing instruction in a foreign language. A survey was conducted among first-year undergraduate students to determine their readiness for instruction in English. The survey results show t...

This paper presents a case study of teaching project management in Croatia in two different learning environments and points out two main paradigms upon which both courses are designed. These two paradigms are most effective learning is working in real-life situations and teach them what you promised and students will respond with effort. We point...

We describe some special surfaces in pseudo-Galilean spaces such as helical surfaces, ruled screw surfaces, surfaces of revolution and in particular tori of revolution. We define special surfaces and find their main properties.
Article
In this article, changes in Mathematics for Informatics at the Faculty of Organisation and Informatics in the University of Zagreb are described, and correlated with students pass rates. Students at the Faculty work in an interdisciplinary field, studying Informatics within a business context. The main reason for introducing the changes in the curr...

Croatia is increasingly investing in higher education as a means of promoting economic development and prosperity and creating a knowledge- based society. The country is also working to implement reforms to higher education required by the European Union's Bologna Process. Bologna reforms are being promoted through a number of projects, including t...

In this paper the equiform differential geometry of curves in the pseudo-Galilean space G13 is introduced. Basic invariants and a moving trihedron are described. Frenet formulas are derived and the fundamental theorem of curves in equiform geometry of G13 is proved. The curves of constant curvatures are described.

The universities/faculties in Croatia should strategically implement e-learning in the existing academic activities because of the many functional benefits that e-learning brings. In our paper we present major challenges about e-learning in Croatia on different levels: state, university, faculty and personal level. We also present results of the qu...

We develop the theory of ruled surfaces in the pseudo-Galilean space G 3 1. Furthermore, we prove the Bonnet theorem and investigate the osculating quadrics for ruled surfaces in G 3 1as well as in the Galilean space G 3.

In this paper the general solution of the Frenet system of differential equations for curves in the pseudo-Galilean space is given. The analogous result in the isotropic (pseudotropic), doubly isotropic and Galilean space are obtained in [3],[4] and [5]. Such result is still unknown in the Euclidean space. There is one particular solution for the E...

Project
The aim of the project is to develop new study programs in the field of ICT which will meet the needs for acquiring appropriate skills and competencies of ICT professionals in accordance with the requirements of the labor market and trends in technological progress. The development of 4 new study programs is planned: 1) Data technologies and artificial intelligence, 2) Management of information security and privacy, 3) Distributed and interactive systems and 4) Management of transformation and innovation of business systems.
Project
Goal of the project was development of a qualification standard and a curriculum for a specialist postgraduate study in medical informatics. Results of the project are summarized in the book "Medical Informatics - Qualifications and Occupations" (in Croatian) that is available at FOI web shop http://services.foi.hr/web_izlog/knjige.php free of charge (you only have to cover delivery costs).
