Introduction
My research focuses on the responses of different ecosystems (terrestrial and aquatic) to external pressures and disturbances, and how these reflect in species' range and diversity. I'm interested in the tresholds different communities within an ecosystem under threat develop, and how/if these tresholds change during or in the aftermath of major events such as climate change and/or large scale anthropogenic disruptions:effecting resilience, forcing adaptation, evolution or initiating migration.

From the decline of the East coast tribes to the dispossession of the native people along the Missouri basin, from the Battle of Little Bighorn to Wounded Knee, America’s indigenous peoples have been subject to horrendous persecution, land grabs and the steady erosion of their way of life. The book, through eye witness accounts of prominent native...

A comparative analysis based on field observation was originally written for Social Science Research Council's website, and later was picked up and published on African Arguments' site. It attempts to draw attention to the parallels and differences in two disparate African regions with similar demographic risks, grappling with dynamics of climate c...

The central aim of this study is to estimate the current potential distribution of Turkey’s forests and their composition in absence of anthropogenic landcover change, and in this manner to contribute to past studies on the distribution of European forest taxa by filling an important spatial gap. For our simulations, we used high resolution climate...

Despite being considered one of the most pressing global issues, biodiversity loss and the degradation of ecosystems is continuing at an alarming rate. In December 2022, COP15 saw the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, where four overarching international goals for biodiversity and 23 targets. While these targets are a...

At the current juncture with climate change, centennial projections of species distributions in biodiversity hotspots, using dynamic vegetation models may provide vital insight into conservation efforts. This study aims to answer: (1) if climate change progresses under a business-as-usual scenario of anthropogenic emissions for this century, how ma...

This white paper details the results of a 3-year monitoring project in Güllük Gulf, in southwestern Türkiye, which was undertaken between 2007-2010. The report was prepared and distributed in 2010. The project entailed identifying sensitive and endangered taxa with assistance of several scientists and formulating a final policy paper. Beginning of...

Palynology, the study of pollen and spores, is vital in various scientific fields, including earth sciences, botany, allergy research, archaeology, forensic science, and cosmetics. A crucial challenge in fossil pollen analysis is determining the minimum number of pollen grains necessary to estimate vegetation composition accurately. Over the years,...

Palynology, the study of pollen and spores, plays a crucial role in various scientific disciplines, including earth sciences (paleovegetation and paleoclimatology), botany, allergy, archaeology, forensic sciencs and cosmetics. This study delves into the critical question in fossil pollen analysis studies: the minimum count of pollen grains required...

According to a 2019 United Nations report, of all the known species, up to 1 million face extinction globally. Despite being considered a pressing global risk with several international efforts to protect and to restore, biodiversity loss and the degradation of ecosystems continue at an alarming rate. In December 2022, the UN Biodiversity Conferenc...

This study considers the potential shift of biomes due to simulated changes in climatic drivers up until the end of this century, and how these changes effect the frequency of disturbances which in turn may affect the ranges of vegetation life zones. The study area is mainly the Anatolian Peninsula and its immediate surroundings, a unique location...

Unprecedented wildfires swept Mediterranean Europe in the summer of 2021 wreaking havoc economically and socially while clearing large swaths of forest land. Those that scorched the southern coastal highlands in Turkey came on the heels of a heat wave and at the peak of the arid season. Nearly two thirds of the Anatolian Peninsula are under the inf...

The only 9 km exact resolution I could find was the EEA dataset, however once I mapped it, didn't look quiet right... Europe/Middle East region preferred, global is also workable! Thanks in advance..
Question
We are using data from ERA5 Land for a preliminary analysis with a GDVM. All other data fields we downloaded are aggreable for the region we are running our tests on, however for Surface Solar Radiation Downwards (SSRD) we are getting radically low values.
The area in question lies in between 43N and 35N (Mediterranean/Black Sea region) and as advised by ERA5 Land we are downloading the daily accumulated values at 00:00 hrs dividing by 86400 to arrive at the daily mean and to convert to Wm-2 (from its original Jm-2). The values we end up with are between 59.5 and 139.2 Wm-2. We are expecting a range at least 7 times higher.
Anyone ran into a similar problem in ERA5 Land or ERA5 Reanalysis?
Thanks in advance
