Introduction
PhD Candidate in Sustainable Energy Systems working on raw materials demand for the European Green Deal. I intend to identify the main bottlenecks in metals supply. I aim to provide a framework for comparison between technologies, to identify the most sound technological mix, and providing a way to mitigate or alleviate the pressure on primary metal supply. I am interested in developing a proper governance framework for geologic resources focused on the resource itself, not on the stakeholders.

Global interest is being given to battery electric vehicles (BEVs), key in transitioning to a low-carbon economy. The growth of BEV production is leading to increased demand for lithium (Li), which will sharply rise in the following decades unless affordable alternatives emerge. We evaluate this demand surge and the role of Portuguese Li resources...
Global attention is being given to hydrogen as it is seen as a versatile energy carrier and a flexible energy vector in transitioning to a low-carbon economy. Hydrogen production/storage/conveyance is metal intensive, and it is crucial to understand if there is material availability to fulfil the committed plans. Using the material intensity of ele...
Global attention is being given to batteries in general, and to battery electric vehicles in particular, as a key in transitioning to a low-carbon economy. Like many other devices, batteries are metal-intensive, and lithium-ion batteries (LIB) inevitably require lithium, besides other metals, in their manufacture. Problems in the secure and afforda...
Global attention is being given to renewable energy solutions as they are seen as crucial to secure decarbonization efforts. Solar photovoltaics (PV) and wind energies are considered leading technologies for the energy transition, and Portugal is following suit with the ratification of the national decarbonization plan in 2019, recognizing these te...
Teapot Dome oilfield near the town of Midwest, Wyoming, has been the testing site of numerous drilling and production techniques since the early 1900's. The structure is a doubly plunging basement-cored anticline that formed during the Laramide orogeny, with sediments ranging from Cambrian to Quaternary. The Steele, Niobrara, and Mowry formations a...
Hydrogen is seen as a versatile energy carrier and a flexible energy vector in the current transition path to a low-carbon economy. We discuss the main interdependent elements critical to the development of a sustained hydrogen economy, from its decarbonised production to the main policy imperatives. Identifying clear priorities for hydrogen use wi...
A membrana...
The global energy transition is evolving rapidly with several multi-million-dollar projects in numerous technologies around the globe. Hydrogen is not an exception. Thanks to its properties, hydrogen represents an unavoidable energy vector that could play a crucial role in energy transition programs. Portugal aims to be on the “green hydrogen” fron...
The Lusitanian Basin is one of the Western Iberian Margin's basins, all related with the opening of the North Atlantic and having their counterparts in eastern Canada's Jeanne D'Arc and Whale Basins. In the Lusitanian Basin, pre-rift, rift and drift phases, with its associated deposits, may be studied in detail, including a whole range of lithofaci...
This paper addresses the modeling of thermal maturation of two potential source-rock units of the Lusitanian Basin, Lower Jurassic and Upper Jurassic, also interpreted in the Peniche Basin. Ten wells in Lusitanian basin and 15 pseudo- wells in the Peniche basin have been analyzed and modeled with PetroMod software. Pseudo - wells were built based o...
The present work intends to present information about the thermal evolution of organic matter present in the geologic formations belonging to the Lusitanian Basin. For this evaluation the PetroMod software from IES Schlumberger (1D and 2D) has been applied. Three wells (one in the North and two in the Central sector) and three interpreted seismic l...
The following work consists in the modeling of thermal evolution of organic matter in three places of the Lusitanian Basin (Portugal). To this end, a descriptive analysis of the main formations in the Lusitanian Basin was done, emphasizing the ones which are more favorable towards the generation of hydrocarbons. The modeling was carried out using I...
