Description
- Since 2007, Benoît has been specialized himself to understand the behaviour of the seals in harsh conditions (high pressure, extreme temperature, friction, ageing etc.). To improve the knowledge, Benoît led collaborative projects with private laboratories and academic universities to carry out research on the tightness with elastomer parts. Some experimental and numerical approaches were established in order to link between mechanical behaviour and tightness performance.

Monitoring and predicting the ageing of industrial systems equipped with sealing products implies the necessity to ensure tightness. This functional performance is difficult to control due to the combined effects of the viscoelastic nature of the materials of interest and the heterogeneous material evolution due to ageing. Interfacial leakage may a...
Despite its importance in the sealing field, fundamental knowledge of the behavior of elastomer O-rings in a gaseous environment still needs to be completed. It is essential to identify the behavior of the O-ring under the coupled effect of sorption (i.e. swelling) under the effect of carbon dioxide (CO2) and temperature to carry out predictive num...

the improvement of knowledge about extrusion resistance of rubber seal under high pressure is necessary to manage the risks of sealing performance in harsh conditions. In this paper, Cetim and LRCCP present their new investigations to understand extrusion failure under high hydrostatic pressure, on two refer-ences 21B6 (NBR) and 61D6 (FVMQ). Some c...
A better understanding of elastomers’ behavior during Rapid Gas Decompression (RGD) requires advanced knowledge of what is happening during gas sorption and desorption. This will offer to improve numerical simulation phenomena to consider a real environmental use of an O-ring, as for thermal applications. A previous experimental study developed tes...
To make use of an O-ring under different pressures and temperatures and to procedure predictive numerical simulations of its use, it becomes important to identify the O-ring behavior under coupled CO2 sorption (i.e. swelling) and desorption (i.e. shrinking) together with the effect of temperature. Therefore, the presented study deals with an experi...
The aim of this study is to improve knowledge on the incompressibility and on the extrusion resistance of rub-ber seals. Under hydrostatic pressure, some irreversible damages may appear on the elastomer seals due to ex-trusion in the space gap, created by component design or dimensional tolerances. Cetim carried out an analysis of experimental resu...
Despite its importance in sealing, a fundamental understanding of the behavior of elastomeric O-rings in a gas environment is still incomplete. Further experimental research is needed to obtain a precise predictive model which can describe the combined effects of gases and mechanical loading. The effect of CO 2 pressure (2, 4 and 6 MPa) on the mech...
Sealing products can undergo many different atmospheric conditions and hence large variations in the in-service temperatures. These products, typically made of elastomer, are known to have heat sensitive mechanical characteristics. Since the reliability of sealing systems can be affected by cyclic temperature conditions, it is essential to predict...

In this work, we address the issue of sealing performance of ring-shape valves compression packings. Our analysis is focused on the characterization of the permeabilty of the rings made of die-formed exfoliated graphite. Because of the tight character of the material, significant Klinkenberg effects are expected. In addition, due to the manufacturi...
Anti-vibrating parts in automotives are often made of natural rubber reinforced by carbon black. This reinforcement, which comes from the filler–filler and filler–rubber interactions, leads to an increase of the elastic modulus, the tensile strength and the hysteresis. The aim of this work is to develop a model within a generalized self-consistent...
