This paper proposes a new empirical model for examining the relationship between obesity and school performance using the simultaneous equation modelling approach. The lagged effects of both learning and health outcomes were included to capture both the dynamic and inter-relational aspects of the relationship between obesity and school performance....
The paper examines key changes in central-provincial government financial arrangements and their effects on provincial economic disparities in Vietnam over the period 2000-2008. We find that after 2004, transfers from the central to provincial governments conformed much more closely to objective and pre-determined criteria than before. Econometric...
Small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) play a vital role in the Vietnamese economy; hence more understanding of their efficiency is of interest for a variety of various stakeholders in Vietnam. This paper estimates technological gaps and identifies factors affecting variations in the technical efficiency of SMEs in Vietnam using firm-level survey...
Our recent paper (Vu et al., 2016) applied the Phillips and Sul’s
method (2007, 2009) and found that the 61 provinces of Vietnam
were formed in five convergence sub-groups. This current paper
identifies trends and patterns of inequality in provincial GDP per
capita of each sub-group of provinces in Vietnam during the period
1990-2011. It also analy...
This paper examines output disparities between the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation
countries during the period 1990~2011. The results show that inter-country levels of
output per capita diverged over the study period but there was a clear break in the trend
around 1998. Applying the time-varying individual common factor model, we found
that a...

This research builds on an earlier study from 2020, offering insight into how different demographic groups access health care and experience challenges with affordability, wait times and satisfaction levels. It shows how patient experience has changed during a period that included a pandemic, recurring natural disasters and soaring living costs. Th...
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a major impact on the various facets of higher education globally. With the
migration to online teaching happening at an unprecedented rate, educators are challenged in transforming the
way they create opportunities for students’ learning. Specifically, in Australia, education providers have
increasingly offered the...

Basic income (BI) is predicted to be the major economic intervention in response to raising income inequality and accelerating technological progress. Financing is often the first question that arises when discussing a BI. A thorough answer to this question will determine the sustainability of any BI program. However, BI experiments impleme...
This study aims to investigate whether energy consumption, human capital and financial development played an important role in economic growth using a panel dataset of six ASEAN countries over the period 1995–2017. Various econometric techniques—the cross-sectional dependence, panel unit root, panel cointegration, long-run panel estimates, and pane...
Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam (the CLMV countries) in Mainland Southeast
Asia share a similar history in their political systems, development of their aviation
industries and their economic development in general. This study examines the
relationship between air transport development, economic growth and inbound tourism
in the CLMV countries....
This paper investigates whether energy consumption, population density, and exports are the main factors causing environmental damage in China. Using annual data from 1971–2018, unit root tests are applied for the stationarity analyses, and Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) bounds tests are used for the long-run relationships between the variab...
Using a comparative approach, this study examines the nexus among renewable energy consumption, economic growth, trade, urbanisation and CO2 emissions for Australia and Canada for the period 1960-2015. The Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) bounds tests are used to explore the long-run relationships amongst the selected variables and the causal...

Background: Over four million people in Australia have some form of disability, of whom 2.1 million are of working age [1]. This paper estimates the costs of disability in Australia using the standard-of-living approach. This approach defines the cost of disability as additional income required for people with a disability to achieve a similar livi...

Most of the empirical literature on the relationship between the health condition and skill development of school children are based on a static relationship between health and skill development. This article contributes to the literature by examining the dynamic relationship between stunting and school achievement using data from the first three w...
Objectives:
Obesity has become a global issue with abundant evidence to indicate that the prevalence of obesity in many nations has increased over time. The literature also reports a strong association between obesity and economic development, but the trend that obesity growth rates may converge over time has not been examined. We propose a concep...
In the Vietnamese context, this paper is the first application of Phillips & Sul’s (2007, 2009)’s approach to the examination of inequality in GDP per capita in a study of 61 Vietnamese provinces covering the period 1990-2011. The results show that provincial levels of GDP per capita diverged over the study period, and all provinces could be formed...

In this paper we examine output disparities at the provincial level in Vietnam during the period 1990-2008, using a range of complementary methods. The results indicate that provincial levels of output per capita diverged over the period as a whole. However, there was a clear break in the trend around 2004, when it actually reversed itself. Applyin...
