Introduction
My name is Belen Bermejo, PhD. in Computer Science and assistant lecturer at the University of the Balearic Islands. I’m currently working of performance and energy trade-off in Virtual Machine Consolidation environments, together with Prof. Dr. Carlos Juiz. Interest and research topics: performance engineering, virtualization, cloud computing, energy consumption and energy efficiency.

Project
Cloud computing is a revolution in digital services, but this revolution has led to Cloud computing transcending from large data centres to small devices close to users. In other words, the Cloud itself catalyses solutions and infrastructures for the Internet of Things, which, in turn, have given rise to a new computing paradigm named Fog. In Fog computing, network devices can operate like the Cloud devices themselves, giving rise to new challenges and new innovative solutions for society, by bringing computing closer to the end-user. In this project, we propose to optimize the computational resources of Fog architectures through location policies and the adaptation of the functionalities of the applications, using hybrid genetic algorithms. Optimal management of the resources that make up the production chain is key to improving the competitiveness of the sector. We propose that the implementations of these policies use the infrastructure itself and adapt to it. In other words, our proposed algorithms are dynamic with the very heterogeneity and dispersion of the infrastructure resources and allow dynamically managing sites based on the mobility of the users. Our initial hypothesis is based on whether policies for the location and adaptation of services based on hybrid GAs obtain better results compared to non-hybrid versions. It is also questioned whether a distributed execution design of these hybrid GAs on the system's own devices compensates for the generated overhead. For this, the general objective of optimizing the management of resources in Fog Computing environments is proposed by improving the location policies and deployment of adaptive computational services, associated with the specific objectives of I) Define and validate a representation model for the location of adaptive services, II) Adapt and parameterize hybrid GA, III) Establish a load model, preferably based on real data, of the use of Cloud and Fog infrastructures, for the validation of the solutions through experimentation, and IV) Plan and execute hybrid GAs in a distributed manner on the Fog infrastructure.

The PlatformUptake.eu seeks to deliver an inventory of the state of the art and analyse the use of open service platforms in the Active and Healthy Ageing domain, covering both open platforms -such as UniversAAL, FIWARE and partly-open/proprietary platforms developed by industry, and address the interactions between these platforms. To measure the impacts of such platform and enhance their uptake, the project proposal presents a methodology for monitoring open platform development, adoption and spread across Europe, by listing key factors that determine success or hinderance in their uptake by the end-user groups, and also the evolution of their ecosystems and stakeholder networks. https://www.platformuptake.eu/
