Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) has a worldwide distribution and common infections. The presence of HCMV genome and antigens has been detected in many kinds of human cancers. The proto-oncogene Her2/neu is overexpressed in 25% to 30% of human breast cancers and frequently associated with tumor aggressiveness and worse prognosis. Examination was applie...

Fluconazole was used to test the susceptibility of Candida albicans isolated from different clinical samples, and to detect mutations in ERG11 gene, and their relationship to fluconazole resistance. Forty-eight isolates of Candida albicans were tested for susceptibility using the disc diffusion method (M-44). ERG11 genes of six isolates were amplif...

In Iraq, breast cancer incidence exceeds any other type of cancers and the etiology not understood well. Epstein Barr virus is a gamma herpesviruses and one of carcinogenic viruses that may implicated to breast carcinogenesis. The nuclear antigen-1 (EBNA-1) protein is the sole EBV antigen that presented in all tumors related to EBV and plays pivota...

Plasmids Plasmids are the extra chromosomal structures in the cells of bacteria which have the ability to self-replicate. They do not combine with the genetic material of the host cell but stay independent. They are genetically modified and are used in the recombinant DNA technology. Plasmids are usually made up of double stranded, non-chromosomal...

Mutations are heritable changes in the genetic coding instructions of DNA. They are essential to the study of genetics and are useful in many other biological fields. Categories of Mutations In multicellular organisms, we can distinguish between two broad categories of mutations: somatic mutations and germline mutations. Somatic mutations arise in...

Six isolates of Bacillus thuringiensis were isolated from Iraqi soil characterized as non- insecticidal and non- hemolytic parasporal inclusion proteins. Bacterial isolates were propagated on nutrient broth. Then, the parasporal inclusion proteins were extracted and processed with proteinase K and trypsin. The major protein segments produced of 64K...

“The United Nations (U.N.) announced that drought is at risk of becoming ‘the next pandemic’ if urgent action isn’t taken to tackle climate change through water and land management,” The Hill reported. “About 1.5 billion people have suffered from the effects of droughts this century, with the land devastation, food insecurity and other subsequent factors leading to economic costs of an estimated $124 billion.” “About 130 countries could face a greater risk of drought this century under a high-emissions scenario cited by the U.N.,” Reuters reported. “Another 23 countries will confront water shortages because of population growth, with 38 nations affected by both, it said. Drought — like a virus — tends to last a long time, have a wide geographic reach and cause knock-on damage.” This project aims to: - Contribute to achieving the sixth goal of sustainable development (ensure access to water and sanitation). - Contribute to achieving international water security. - Raising the awareness of decision-makers and the international civil society, Actors in the social and economic environment, about the risks of drought, through prospective studies. - Sensitizing decision-makers and the international civil society about ways to conserve blue gold. - Contribute to finding possible and alternative solutions to face drought. - How to cope with the next epidemic (drought).
