Introduction
Barbara Burlingame is Professor of Nutrition and Food Systems at Massey University, New Zealand. From 1998 through 2014 she worked at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, most recently as Deputy Director of the Nutrition Division. Her current research includes the transdisciplinary areas of nutrition and environmental sustainability, biodiversity for food and nutrition, sustainable diets and sustainable food systems, and multisectoral policy development and analysis.
