Description
  • My research is focusing on critical understanding of circovirus replication through the structural, biochemical, and immunological characterisation of the two proteins encoded by their genomes, the capsid (Cap) and replicase associated protein (Rep). Knowledge of these proteins and the biological interfaces required for viral function will establish key therapeutic targets and basis for the management of this important disease.

Background Birds are known to harbour many pathogens, including circovirus, herpesviruses, adenoviruses and Chlamydia psittaci. Some of these pose zoonotic risks, while others, such as beak and feather disease virus (BFDV), have a significant impact on the conservation of endangered bird species. Objectives This study was aimed to determine the fa...

Adenoviral pVII proteins are multifunctional, highly basic, histone‐like proteins that can bind to and transport the viral genome into the host cell nucleus. Despite the identification of several nuclear localization signals (NLSs) in the pVII protein of human adenovirus (HAdV)2, the mechanistic details of nuclear transport are largely unknown. Her...

Rotavirus A is a leading cause of non-bacterial gastroenteritis in humans and domesticated animals. Despite the vast diversity of bovine Rotavirus A strains documented in South Asian countries, there are very few whole genomes available for phylogenetic study. A cross-sectional study identified a high prevalence of the G6P[11] genotype of bovine Ro...

Dengue virus (DENV) nonstructural protein 5 (NS5), consisting of methyltransferase and RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) domains, is critical for viral RNA synthesis within endoplasmic reticulum-derived replication complexes in the cytoplasm. However, a significant proportion of NS5 is localized to the nucleus of infected cells for DENV2, 3, and...

Adenoviral pVII proteins are multifunctional, highly basic, histone-like proteins that can bind to and transport the viral genome into the host cell nucleus. Despite the identification of several nuclear localization signals (NLSs) in the pVII protein of human adenovirus 5 (HAdV5), the mechanistic details of nuclear transport are largely unknown. H...

Adenovirus protein VII (pVII) plays a crucial role in the nuclear localization of genomic DNA following viral infection and contains nuclear localization signal (NLS) sequences for the importin (IMP)-mediated nuclear import pathway. However, functional analysis of pVII in adenoviruses to date has failed to fully determine the underlying mechanisms...

Canine circovirus (CanineCV) is an emerging pathogen in domestic dogs, detected in multiple countries in association with varying clinical and pathological presentations including diarrhoea, vasculitis, granulomatous inflammation, and respiratory signs. Understanding the pathology of CanineCV is confounded by the fact that it has been detected in a...

Pigeon circovirus (PiCV) is considered to be genetically diverse, with a relatively small circular single-stranded DNA genome of 2 kb that encodes for a capsid protein (Cap) and a replication initiator protein (Rep). Australasia is known to be the origin of diverse species of the Order Columbiformes, but limited data on the PiCV genome sequence has...
Article
Columbid alphaherpesvirus 1 (CoHV1) is associated with oral or upper respiratory tract lesions, encephalitis, and occasional fatal systemic disease in naive or immunosuppressed pigeons. Clinical disease is often reported with CoHV1 and coinfecting viruses, including pigeon circovirus (PiCV), which may cause host immunosuppression and augment lesion...

Columbid alphaherpesvirus 1 (CoHV-1) is a well-recognised viral pathogen in pigeons with a global distribution. Infected birds may remain asymptomatic carriers with episodic recurrence and shedding in endemically infected flocks. When introduced to naïve or immunosuppressed population it may cause oral or upper respiratory tract pathology, encephal...

TaqMan probe based quantitative polymerase reaction (TaqMan qPCR) is a robust and reliable technique for detecting and quantifying target DNA copies. Quantitative molecular diagnosis of genetically diverse single stranded DNA (ssDNA) virus such as Pigeon circovirus (PiCV) can be challenging owing to difficulties in primer binding or low abundance o...

Here, we report the complete mitochondrial genome sequence of a seabird, wedge-tailed shearwater ( Ardenna pacifica ). The circular genome has a size of 16,434 bp and contains 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, and 2 rRNA genes. The study provides a reference mitochondrial genome of wedge-tailed shearwater for further molecular studies.

Canine parvovirus 2 (CPV-2) outbreaks in close quarters such as kennels or shelters can cause substantial case fatality. Thirteen dead Labradors from a secluded kennel of security dogs presented with typical clinical signs and gross pathology of parvovirus infection. Whole genome shotgun sequencing from tissue-extracted genomic DNA detected new CPV...

Here, we report the complete mitochondrial genome sequence of an Australian passerine bird, magpie-lark ( Grallina cyanoleuca ). The circular genome has a size of 16,933 bp and contains 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, and 2 rRNA genes. This study provides a reference mitochondrial genome of magpie-lark for further molecular studies.

Circoviruses represent a rapidly expanding group of viruses that infect both vertebrate and invertebrate hosts. Members are responsible for diseases of veterinary and economic importance, including postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome in pigs, and beak and feather disease (BFD) in birds. These viruses are associated with lymphoid depletion an...

The study was directed to explore the impacts of graded levels of baker's yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) on performance, carcass attributes, gut morphology, and hemato-biochemical indices of industrial broiler birds. Two hundred forty-old-unsexed Cobb 500 broiler chicks were randomly distributed into four unique feeding regimens designated as T0...

Objective: Salmonella is a widely-reported zoonotic bacterial pathogen and human infection is mostly attributed through direct or indirect contact with chickens. Salmonella Kentucky (S. Kentucky) is one of the motile serovars which has recently been identified from both poultry and human samples in Bangladesh. This study was conducted to assess its...

Fish Oil (FO) is an important source of omeg-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) which increases performance, immunity to broilers. The present investigation was undertaken to determine the influence of dietary FO on performance, preventing coccidiosis and serum lipid profile in broilers. Materials and Methods: A total of 120 commercial chicks wer...

p>The present study was the first postmortem examination of a barn owl in Bangladesh. A female Barn owl weighing 450grams was brought to the Teaching Veterinary Hospital (TVH) at Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) by the forest department, Chittagong. The history of traumatic injury on left wing by an electric fan one day...

Bangladesh has been considered as one of the five countries endemic with highly pathogenic avian influenza A subtype H5N1 (HPAI H5N1). Live-bird markets (LBMs) in south Asian countries are believed to play important roles in the transmission of HPAI H5N1 and others due to its central location as a hub of the poultry trading. Food and Agriculture Or...
