Portulaca oleracea L. (Purslane) is a C4 succulent belonging to the family Portulacaceae known for the higher concentration of oxalic acid (OA) in plant parts. To investigate the relationship between salinity tolerance and OA accumulation, one-month-old plants were treated with increasing levels of NaCl (25, 50, 100, and 200 mM) and analyzed. From...
Portulaca oleracea L. is a C 4 succulent belonging to the family Portulacaceae. It is a nitrogen-loving plant with high oxalic acid content. Salinity effect was evaluated on the basis of change in biomass and some nutritional c...
One month old C 4 succulent Portulaca oleracea Linn was water stressed for 4, 8 and 15 days (d). There was significant increase in the activities of enzymes, nitrate and nitrite reductases due to 8 d of water stress as compared to control. Activities of the enzymes glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase and glutamic pyruvic transaminase were also increa...
One month old C4 succulent Portulaca oleracea Linn. plants were water stressed through watering them at an interval of 4, 8 and 15 days. Studies indicated that there was increase in the activities of enzymes, nitrate and nitrite reductases (NR and NiR) due to 8 days of water-deficit stress. Activity of transaminases viz., glutamic oxaloacetic trans...
Several methods have been described for determination of oxalic acid or oxalates in plants. These methods include Indole-oxalic acid reaction, titration with KMnO4, rapid catalytic reduction by oxalic acid using Pyrocatechol violet (PCV) / Bromophenol blue / Victoria blue etc. In the present investigation, these methods are followed for determinati...
Cleome is the largest genus from family Cleomaceae comprising 180 to 200 species of herbaceous annual or perennial plants and shrubs widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions. Carbohydrates are the major micronutrients containing carbon, hydrogen and oxygen atoms in their structures. The carbohydrates are divided roughly into three groups the monosaccharides, the oligosaccharides and the polysaccharides. There are marked variations in the amounts of carbohydrates in various parts of plants and also in kinds of carbohydra...
The present study was taken up to make a record of the pollen morphological details in five Cleome species with help of light and scanning electron microscopy. Present exploration has strictly been carried out for selective species of Cleome viz. Cleome chelidonii L.f., C. speciosa Raf., C. gynandra L., C. simplicifolia (Camb.) Hook f. & Thoms and...
Applications of antioxidants are increasing due to their multiple roles in removing harmful effects of oxidative stress. for the present
study Tpc, dpph, frAp, metal chelating Ability, reducing power and TAc spectrophotometric assays were used for the assessment of
antioxidative properties of methanolic extracts of leaves of 5 different Cleome spec...
Most of Cleome species are medicinal herbs commonly used to treat
fever, cough, asthma, on earache, rheumatism and various diseases. Some Cleome
species consumed as green vegetables in many African countries. In present
study, tris extraction buffer was used to extract total proteins from the leaves
and seeds of five different Cleome species. Upon...
Total chlorophyll content, chlorophyll a/b ratio and caretenoid concentrations were measured in five
different cleome species (C. chelidonii, C. speciosa, C. viscose, C. gynandra and C. simplicifolia) from
various habitats of Kolhapur district. This study has carried out for understanding comparative
photosynthetic efficiency and pigmentation patte...
Salinity adversely affects crop productivity and the quality of yield. The present work was carried out to estimate the changes in nitrogen metabolism under the influence of NaCl salinity in four selected grasses. All the species recorded a decrease in nitrate nitrogen content at the highest concentration of salinity stress (300 mM). Its maximum in...
Salinity is one of the major abiotic stresses that adversely affect crop productivity and quality. The present investigation was carried out to study the alterations in the growth characteristics of a grass species, Pennisetum alopecuroides under the influence of sodium chloride (NaCl) salinity. From the results it is clear that shoot length of Pen...
Salinity is one of the major abiotic stress that adversely affects on crop productivity and its quality. The present investigation was carried out to study the alterations in the growth characteristics, photosynthetic pigments and polyphenols content of Vetiveria zizanioides (L.) under the influence of sodium chloride salinity. The result shows tha...
Soil salinity is abiotic stress which adversely influences on growth, overall development and productivity of plants. The plant response to salinity consists of numerous morphological and cellular changes which function in a well coordinated way to alleviate toxicity and changes therefore. Adaptation of some species to elevated salt concentrations...
Salinity is one of the major abiotic stresses that adversely affect crop productivity and

In pot trials, irrigation of groundnut with saline water containing NaCl or Na2SO4 adversely affected pod yield, but increased the total lipid content in seeds; the phospholipid fraction was decreased due to salt stress, while the neutral lipid components were relatively unaffected. The response to salinity differed in cv. TMV-10 and SB-11
