A patient with an implant in the canine-premolar region was taken for gingivectomy around the implant. It was carried out via cautery. The wound became really painful for the patient and he was given painkillers and antibiotic cover. The area remained unhealed even after 8 weeks. Possible causes?
The Implant wasn't loaded.
The patient was 70yrs+ with the H.O lung cancer (treated and cured). He also took medications for high BP.
Question
I am particularly concerned with the chance of brittle enamel getting chipped off while doing US scaling. 
Also, noticed excessive sensitivity to cold water and air in these patients. How to overcome the stated problems.
