Technical Report

LAMARTRA addresses the interlinkages between transition processes of decarbonisation and ‘labour market’ - understood more broadly as work and employment. The salience of these interlinkages is increasing as processes of low-carbon transition are progressing beyond their initial stages of pioneering and niche markets. This salience speaks from the...

The importance of social and institutional innovations in the energy transition has become increasingly evident in recent years. The quest for new institutional arrangements and social relations has been accompanied by the proliferation of new concepts: Energy democracy, energy justice, energy poverty and energy literacy are interrogating and openi...
Technical Report

Within this deliverable we examine how energy citizenship, and the associated normative ideals of ‘active’ energy citizenship, has developed and continues to develop differently across European contexts. We report the results from four (local language) one-day regional workshops, hosted in Spain, Belgium, Germany, Hungary.
Technical Report

This deliverable describes the conceptual framework on energy citizenship. It lays down the key definitions, theoretical underpinnings and social constructions of the required systematic energy citizenship understanding. The conceptual framework discloses the diversity of more and less 'active' energy citizenship forms, identifying the main distinc...

The research report presents a case analysis on the transition towards a circular economy in Brussels from an exnovation perspective. It focuses on the governance of the ways out from the linear economy or 'delinearisation'. The objectives of this research consist in: (1) elucidating the shifting place of exnovation in the strategies and debates on...

Low-carbon transition processes can not only exacerbate existing social inequalities, but also create unprecedented forms of inequality. These social impacts can potentially combine and reinforce each other to create double or even triple vulnerabilities. With a view to ensuring a just transition, it is essential to consider social justice issues i...
Thesis

Since various public and private actors at the international, supranational, national and subnational levels started to adopt long-term targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, low-carbon scenario analyses have flourished. Literature reveals an increasing number of analyses envisioning and exploring alternative images of low-carbon futures, a...

This paper investigates the role of governance dimensions in socio-economic transitions in line with degrowth, i.e., an equitable downscaling of the economy. Our focus is on experiences from the 2008 economic crisis in Latvia and Iceland. Although these cases are not in themselves examples of degrowth, we see them as important sources of empirical...

Project
EnergyPROSPECTS aims to develop a broad understanding of energy citizenship. It analyses the external and internal contextual conditions as they support or hinder energy citizenship in its various forms - and across different countries, regions and contexts.
Project
LAMARTRA addresses the interlinkages between transition processes of decarbonisation and work & employment. How to understand the ongoing and future developments of the low-carbon and 'labour' transitions, and which governance strategies are available in Belgium to ensure the joint pursuit of climate targets and ‘just’ work and employment?
Project
Various network governance constellations are being developed for the stimulation, co-creation and institutional anchorage of sustainability-oriented innovation and grassroots initiatives. Beyond this bright and mobilizing side of transitions governance, this project deliberately targets its crucial but hitherto relatively neglected counterpart of exnovation. How can the existing governance arrangements and regulatory frameworks in the Brussels Capital Region be supported in dealing with the sustainable economy transition and its exnovation challenges?
