Seabirds drastically transform the environmental conditions of the sites where they establish their breeding colonies via soil, sediment, and water eutrophication (hereafter termed ornitheutrophication). Here, we report worldwide amounts of total nitrogen (N) and total phosphorus (P) excreted by seabirds using an inventory of global seabird populat...

In this study, we provide a paleotemperature reconstruction based on periglacial deposits and landforms from the northwest Iberian Peninsula. We describe different types of periglacial deposits and landforms which were considered as paleoenvironmental archives. The occurrence of these landforms and deposits suggests that mean annual air temperature...

Previous studies using unmanned aerial vehicles and remote sensing techniques have provided data on group sediment dynamics and overall mobility of a boulder beach at Oia in Galicia, northwestern Spain. They recorded changes in the location and disposition of hundreds of clasts but were unable to trace the intermittent movement of individual boulde...

This work analyzes the evolution of the large shifting dune included in the Corrubedo Natural Park from 1956 until the present day. The analysis was carried out using aerial images, orthophotographs, topographic surveys and LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) data. Variations were analyzed in terms of four different aspects: evolution of pathways i...

The drainage basin of the Atlantic Sil River is located in the central-eastern sector of Galicia (NW of Iberia). The Sil and its tributaries, especially the rivers Xares, Bibei, Quiroga, Navea and Cabe, flow through a contrasting relief. Here, the transverse drainage is characterised by an alternance of tectonic depressions preserving Cenozoic sedi...

Structural and lithological control has a key role in the shape of the rocky coast and its dynamics. Therefore, deepening the knowledge about these zones is one of the main aims for the future. In this sense, a granitic-gneissic sector was analyzed in the Galician coast (NW Iberian Peninsula) to understand their past and future evolution. For the c...

The granite massif of Pasarela and Traba is in Costa da Morte (Galicia, NW Spain) and their orientation is North-South. In this zone dominate biotite granodiorite (late hercinic age), whose main mineral is potassium rich feldspar. This is a granite material with a great uniformity and coarse grain, which distinguishes it from two micas granites (fu...

The glacial history of the Iberian Peninsula, both glacial landforms and associated deposits, as well as the geochronology framework of the successive glacial stages within the Last Glaciation (LG), is now better understood. In turn, there is a growing body of evidence on glacial stages prior to LG. The increased use of absolute dating techniques h...

Rocky coastal regions are often inaccessible due to steep slopes and high relief. Remotely sensed data can, therefore, be useful, but they often have low spatial and temporal resolution and, in the case of airborne LiDAR, if not publically available , are costly to obtain. This paper reports on the use of high-resolution images from unmanned aerial...

Rias are elongated inlets, arms of the sea, that penetrate in the continental zone. These forms are understood as sea flooded river valleys since the German researcher von Richthofen introduced the term into the scientific literature in 1886. Many authors have dealt with this rocky coast macroform, and most of them highlight their fluvial origin. N...

Glaciers in very low mountains near the coast, with peaks of c. 950 m, have been described in Northwestern Iberia. The high precipitation in these mountains facilitated the formation of glaciers during the Pleistocene.
