Proactive maintenance is a policy aimed at identifying the root cause of failure and correcting it before it causes other problems and leads to machinery failure and breakdown. Implementing this policy can enhance reliability, availability, maintainability, and safety (RAMS) at low cost. A digital twin (DT) is a digital copy of a physical object an...

Abstract: Proactive maintenance is a policy aimed at identifying the root cause of failure and correcting it before it causes other problems and leads to machinery failure and breakdown. Implementing this policy can enhance reliability, availability, maintainability, and safety (RAMS) at low cost. Digital Twin (DT) and Lean Six Sigma (LSS) are usef...

Shutdown maintenance is a critical process in various industries due to process downtime losses. Lean Six Sigma (LSS) in shutdown maintenance is a systematic approach for continuous improvement to achieve shutdown objectives and reduce downtime. Through a systematic review of relevant literature, case studies, and published materials, this study in...

Gas metal arc welding (GMAW) is a widely used fusion welding process. Such process is extensively used in joining various ferrous and nonferrous alloys. In the present investigation, an optimization of the GMAW process parameters was carried out using Taguchi's optimization approach. This approach has been adopted to find out the optimum GMAW proce...

Supply chain management (SCM) is essential for any company to survive increasing global competitive pressures. SCM depends on continuous improvement and how it is implemented to support performance. Lean Six Sigma (LSS) enables supply chains to become more efficient and effective in sustaining continuous improvement. The integration of SCM and LSS...

Lean Six Sigma (LSS) is one of the most popular and widely used business improvement methodologies. The integration of LSS is important as Lean focuses on eliminating waste between and within the steps of the process, and Six Sigma works to reduce the variation of output seen in processes and works to improve the quality of the inputs going into th...

Abstract: Lean six sigma (LSS) is a continuous process improvement approach that focuses on improving quality and eliminating waste, which in turn improves customer satisfaction and reduces operation costs. Some important LSS case studies, tools and techniques are discussed, which will be useful to LSS practitioners. In this context, this study foc...

In the present investigation, friction stir spot welding (FSSW) on AA6061-T4 aluminium alloy plates was performed. The influences of the tool rotational speed, dwell time, plunge depth and plunge rate on tensile-shear load of welds were evaluated. The process parameters were optimized by Taguchi technique based on Taguchi's L9 orthogonal array. The...

Process planning is a key enabler of the various production planning activities, that lies at the core of current state-of-the-art product lifecycle management key components. Operations sequencing is the first and main step to take place at the macro planning level, and is defined as the problem of sequencing a global set of machining sub-operatio...

To solve assembly line balancing problem (ALBP) an integer-programming model is proposed. This model takes into consideration assignment, cycle time, zoning, and precedence constraints. The proposed model has solved the single ALBP with deterministic and stochastic task time. The model aims at optimizing four objectives which are the number of stat...

The multi-objective facility layout problem is defined in the literature as an extension of the famous quadratic assignment problem (QAP). Most previous mathematical models tried to combine both the quantitative and the qualitative objectives into a single objective by using weighting factors. This paper introduces a multi-objective mathematical mo...

In this study, a maintenance schedule optimization model is developed for multi-unit, multi-state systems with multi-level of preventive maintenance actions. The decision variable in this model is the sequence of preventive maintenance actions which applied to the system in a finite time horizon. The total maintenance cost includes preventive maint...
