Introduction
I am a Ph.D. student in the Resasco Lab at the University of Colorado Boulder in the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Department. I have a B.A. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Princeton University. My research focuses include coupled human and natural systems, insect-mediated ecosystem services, and bee biodiversity. In the future, I hope to study the community ecology of under-researched environments, including lower-income inner-city neighborhoods and ecosystems in the tropics.

Description
  • I completed a senior thesis in the Kocher Laboratory focused on two highly productive pollinators within the Augochlorini Halictid Bee tribe: Augochlora pura, a solitary species, and Augochlorella aurata, a facultatively eusocial species. The purpose of this research was to gain insight into how conspecific interactions differ between a solitary species and a facultatively eusocial species that have recently diverged.

  • I worked alongside ecologists, forestry engineers, and community activists that monitor the Amazon and collect data that is released to the public. My role was to engage with members of small communities throughout the Amazon. With a co-intern I led a Tropical and Community Ecology course for the Environmental Agent Training Program, in tandem with English lessons in two communities in the Amazon basin.

Sila Bals) epidemiological study focused on public health and environmental factors contributing to an optical growth called a pterygium.
