This article reports on a study that aimed to investigate the productivity of machine translation post-editing (MTPE) applied to the sworn translation of personal documents. More specifically, it aimed at describing some of the challenges of post-editing birth certificates and ID cards from Brazilian Portuguese into American English, as well as ana...
This study focuses on the translation product in the form of subtitles and, in particular, investigates the perceived quality of machine-translated post-edited interlingual subtitles. Basing this study on data collected from Brazilian professional translators, we analyse whether the use of machine translation has an impact on the perceived quality...
This paper analyzes the quality of machine-translated interlingual subtitles, which were post-edited in the language pair EN/ PT-BR. Our analyses applied the FAR model, a Translation Quality Assessment Model, to the PT-BR subtitles of The Red Sea Diving Resort movie trailer, correlating it to empirical data collected with translators (quality asses...
Drawing on Descriptive Translation Studies and the concept of norms proposed by Toury (1995/2012), this study aims to analyze the translation of cultural items in the Brazilian novel Vidas Secas (1938), by Graciliano Ramos, and translated into English, Barren Lives (1999), by Ralph Edward Dimmick. More specifically, the study aims at a) identifying...
This paper discusses the translation strategies used to translate the book
entitled “We should all be feminists” by Chimamanda Adichie in the language pair
English-Brazilian Portuguese. Additionally, it examines the ideological implications of
the translation choices used in the excerpts, which were selected based on two
criteria: a) strangeness wh...

This paper reports on a study that analyses the impact of two different machine translation (MT) outputs on the cognitive effort required to post-edit machine-translated metaphors by means of eye tracking and think-aloud protocols. We hypothesise that the statistical MT output would have a positive effect on reducing cognitive effort. In order to t...
Entrevista com Arlene Koglin, egressa da Pós-Graduação em Estudos da Tradução da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Brasil.
This paper presents the results of an experimental study that investigates the influence of cognitive effort on post-editing tasks from a relevance-theoretic perspective (Wilson 2011). Using two short scientific texts, we compare post-editing processes in two different machine translation web-based workbenches, namely interactive machine translatio...
The combination of temporal, technical and cognitive effort has been proposed as metrics to evaluate the feasibility of post-editing on machine-translation (MT) output (Krings, 2001). In this study, we investigate the impact of interactive machine translation on the post-editing effort required to post-edit two specialized texts under experimental...
This study is an empirical investigation of the cognitive effort required to post-edit machine translated metaphors and to translate this trope manually.
This paper reports on a study that investigates the cognitive effort required of a translator either to post-edit machine translated metaphors or to translate metaphors manually by means of eye tracking and keystroke logging. We hypothesise that post-editing will be less effortful than manual translation. In order to test this hypothesis, an experi...

A pesquisa foi realizada nos títulos de teses, dissertações e artigos com os termos legendagem, legendação e tradução de/para legendas. A análise revela uso indiscriminado dos termos, o que d...
This study aims at investigating the translation of metaphors that produce

analysis, which is made up of metaphorical expressions originating f...
