The working hypothesis that guides the present investigation sustains that the macroeconomic factors, both exogenous (the growing role of the North American currency in the global economy) and endogenous (external constraint, devaluations or inflationary cycles), are necessary but not sufficient conditions to understand the expansion of the uses of the US dollar in the Argentine economy since the late 1950s. To achieve this understanding, it is also necessary to take into account the socio-history of the transactional, institutional and financial mediations that allowed the proliferation of these monetary practices.
