We will describe the patterns of intake and preference for ethanol during adolescence and adulthood, in rats exposed to treatments that induce symptoms resembling those experimented by depressed, maniac or autistic patients. We expect that adolescent, but not adult, rats with these psychiatric-like syndromes will exhibit problematic alcohol intake. We also expect a promoting effect of adolescent alcohol exposure on drinking at adulthood, with this effect being greater when first drinking occurred in the midst of a psychiatric disorder. We will also measure neural and behavioral changes likely to be responsible for the these effects.
