Servitization poses several challenges to supply chain managers. Existing supply chain features can facilitate or hinder servitization, which, in turn, transforms supply chain features, requiring planning and adaptation. We address this bidirectional relationship through a systematic literature review (n = 70), analysing ten supply chain features a...
“LARG” is a supply chain management paradigm that combines different managerial approaches to achieve waste reduction (Lean), rapid response to customer requests (Agile), resilience to disruptions (Resilient), and environmental sustainability (Green). LARG practices could help addressing some of the strategic priorities of Engineer-to-Order (ETO) c...
As the economy increasingly shifts from product-to service-driven, New Service Development (NSD)-the process of developing new services from ideation to launch-becomes crucial. Of particular interest are digital services, like mobile applications, which have specific features, like the fruition through a blend of digital and non-digital media, whic...
Business models can be created by combining business model patterns. The use of patterns can stimulate creativity of entrepreneurs and support the design of innovative business models for sustainability. In this article, we analyze the frameworks on sustainable business model (SBM) patterns, which can be mainly classified along the three dimensions...
Companies operating with an Engineer-to-Order (ETO) fulfilment strategy deliver highly customized products, which makes downstream supply chain coordination critical for their success. Recent studies have shown that Industry 4.0 technologies can facilitate supply chain coordination. However, it is still unclear how they could support downstream coo...
This paper investigates the link between servitization and sustainability. Extant literature assumes a positive effect of servitization on sustainability, while limited contributions report that, under certain conditions, servitization can also have negative effects. Through a case study on the professional printer supply chain, we show that the po...
Sustainability has gained an increasing relevance in different supply chain management (SCM) processes. Companies undertake sustainability initiatives not only with the aim to cause less harm to the environment and the society, but also to build competitive advantage based on sustainability. Inventory planning and management (IP&M) is a cornerstone...
Engineer-to-order (ETO) firms design and manufacture products according to customers' orders. As such, they induce a high level of variety in production, which makes the management of their operations particularly complex. This complexity, coupled with increasing competitive pressure, led many ETO firms to leverage product modularity to improve the...
Because of excessive use, resources are becoming scarcer and more expensive. This calls for a shift from our current economic model, based on the linear approach of "take, make, consume, dispose", to the paradigm of circular economy, which maintains the value of products, materials and resources in the economy while eliminating waste. Printers for...
Servitization allows manufacturing companies to enrich their value proposition with services. It enables them to differentiate their offers from competitors, while capitalizing more on digital technologies. Servitization practices such as maintenance services, training and advisory, or rental and leasing solutions are widespread among many sectors....
Engineer-to-Order (ETO) companies are embracing the mass customisation strategy to face the challenges posed by global competition. Product configurators are key enablers of such strategy. Despite the benefits, the actions to perform to manage the challenges of implementing product configurators are still understudied. This paper aims to fill this...
An efficient and effective forecasting of production cycle times (CT) is a critical success factor in semiconductor manufacturing systems (SMS): inaccurate CT forecasts can have a negative impact on production scheduling, causing late deliveries, as well as on the amount of inventories and work-in-progress, which rapidly lose value over time becaus...

Imagine you are an early researcher (assistant professor) in Operations & Supply Chain Management. You also have some teaching and admin responsabilities which count for an average of 2 days per week. Assume you may be interested in diving deeper into your previous resarch interest, but also in opening a new research line.
Any ideas and personal experience is much appreciated, especially with regards to daily time management (hours per day per paper). Thank you!
Dear colleagues,
I would like to improve my knowledge of multiple case study research.
My question is: when I interview different companies, should the number of interviews for each company be the same (e.g. 3 rounds each), or doing otherwise would reduce the comparability of the findings of the cases? And would this be a big methodological issue or a minor one?
Thank you,
Antonio
