Multisectoral models usually have a single representative household. However, more diversity of household types is needed to analyse the effects of multiple phenomena (i.e. ageing, gender inequality, distributional income impact, etc.). Household consumption surveys’ microdata is a rich data source for these types of analysis. However, feeding mult...

There are increasing numbers of published articles in the field of input–output analysis and modelling that use the GTAP input–output database; particularly, in relation to the estimation of carbon, energy and water footprints and the analysis of global value chains and international trade. The policy relevance of those topics is also increasing, t...

This work introduces a generalization of the SUT-RAS methodology (Temurshoev y Timmer, 2010; Valderas-Jaramillo et al., 2018) with the aim of estimating a subregional SUT framework consistent with the Regional SUT framework. For its implementation, we start with statistical information coming from the available sources of the System of Regional Acc...

Every change in the product and/or industry classifications and/or methodology of supply, use and input–output tables makes any medium- to long-term policy analysis impossible unless appropriate conversions are provided by national statistical institutes using more detailed data. However, can these tables be reasonably converted to a different clas...

The Eurostat-JRC project ‘Full International and Global Accounts for Research in Input-Output Analysis’ (FIGARO) has produced experimental EU inter-country supply, use and input-output tables for the year 2010 in line with ESA 2010 methodology. This paper uses FIGARO tables to analyse the employment content of EU Member States exports. This appl...

In the construction of input–output models from supply-use tables, technology assumptions disambiguate how an industry uses inputs in the production recipe of multiple outputs. This paper uses Bayes' theorem to select technology assumptions, taking into account empirical observations. The paper presents a formulation to explore hybrids between prod...

Jointly with the European Commission's Joint Research Centre, Eurostat has developed a methodology for the construction of the EU inter-country supply, use and input-output tables by reusing available data, preparing the way for regular data production and dissemination. This work has been done in cooperation with international agencies such as the...

FIDELIO (Fully Interregional Dynamic Econometric Long-term Input-Output) is a multi-sectoral model developed by the unit B.5 of the Directorate General Joint Research Centre (JRC) — the circular economy and industrial leadership unit. Compared to neoclassical CGE models — which assume that the perfect flexibility of prices and quantities ensures th...

The Handbook on Supply, Use and Input-Output Tables with Extensions and Applications is an update of the Handbook of National Accounting: Handbook of Input-Output Table Compilation and Analysis (United Nations, 1999) (available here https://unstats.un.org/unsd/publication/SeriesF/SeriesF_74E.pdf) to incorporate the changes in the international stan...

The common presence of gaps in solar irradiance series led to the development of new methods for quantifying uncertainty in evidence, and new schemes of inference from uncertain data. The uncertainty of monthly Global Horizontal solar Irradiation (GHI) averages is assessed in this study by investigating the impact of different amounts of daily data...

Input–Output modellers are often faced with the task of estimating missing Use tables at basic prices and also valuation matrices of the individual countries. This paper examines a selection of estimation methods applied to the European context where the analysts are not in possession of superior data. The estimation methods are restricted to the u...

This document presents the results of an empirical analysis carried out in order to estimate total expenditure elasticities for the household consumption module of the FIDELIO model. The estimates are based on survey data for the following six European countries: Austria, France, Italy, Slovakia, Spain, and the UK. The analysis deals with twelve ca...

This document explores the potential for the use of a market-based instrument to contribute to reducing the emissions of particulate matter of less than 10 micrometres from household heating appliances in the framework of the review of the Thematic Strategy on Air Pollution. The study is focused on the assessment of the economic and environmental i...
Article
An economy may perform better because the firms become more efficient, the industries are better organized, or the allocation between industries is improved. In this paper we extend the literature on the measurement of industry efficiency (a decomposition in firm contributions and an organizational effect) to a third level, namely that of the econo...
Article
The literature on stochastic input–output (I–O) analysis has paid considerable attention to the bias in the Leontief inverse. This paper extends previous studies by assuming supply and use tables (SUTs rather than I–O tables or input coefficients matrices) to be stochastic. This is a natural starting point because SUTs have become the basic data so...

Climate change research is currently a topic of great interest for economic researchers. In particular, environmental input–output analysis increasingly plays an important role in measuring the economic and environmental effects of sustainable development policies in Europe. Other approaches also exist, such as econometric modelling, in which impac...

More than 60% of olive-growing farms in Andalusia (Spain) would have negative returns without European agricultural subsidies. Agenda 2000 criteria imply that agricultural subsidies currently play the role of enhancing the production quality and the environmental and social values of agriculture. Although the necessity of the modulation of subsidie...

Managing Tourism efficently is essential, as it is one of the most important sectors in Andalusia (Spain). Checking the efficiency of a tourist area is complicated as political criteria must be taken into account, e.g. Environmental issues. Special care is taken in the specification of the model using multivariate analysis. We analyse what DEA inde...
