Introduction
His research interest include and he has published on: social theory (processes and mechanisms of social change), trajectories of rural modernization, processes of spatial organization (nation building and state formation; globalisation), changing material culture and consumption and historical demography. Currently he is writing a book on the dual processes of modernisation and democratisation in the Dutch countryside from 1840 till 1920.
