Zhou and George’s (2001) 13-item supervisory rating scale has been modified and used for individuals’ self-report creativity. This present research has particularly translated and investigated the psychometric properties of the Malay version Self-Rated Creativity Scale (SRCS-M) through two studies using two different adolescent samples (N = 753). A...
The present study examined the factorial structure, reliability, and concurrent validity of the 5-item Performance Failure Appraisal Inventory–Short Form (PFAI–SF) based on 396 Malaysian undergraduates’ responses to the PFAI–SF and a 12-item self-rated creativity scale. Confirmatory factor analyses showed that the hypothetical one-factor model was...
The 50-item Kaufman Domains of Creativity Scale (K-DOCS; Kaufman Psychology of Aesthetics, Creativity and the Arts, 6(4), 298-308, 2012) is a relatively new domain-specific self-report scale designed to assess the five different domains of creativity. However, a shorter form of the scale is preferable to reduce participants’ burden. The present res...
Background: Children and young refugees often experience negative events that affect
their mental health. Their caregivers may also be in the same predicament, implying that the teachers in schools are a potential source of help and support. However, most teachers have little understanding of mental health and are, thus, clueless in helping their s...
The 13‐item self‐rated creativity scale (SRCS) initially developed for supervisory rating of employees’ creativity was modified by some researchers and used as a self‐report of creativity. However, it is not clear if the modified SRCS is psychometrically sound. The present study addressed this gap in three studies (N = 1,033). The exploratory facto...
The 8-item Short Grit Scale (Grit-S; Duckworth & Quinn, 2009) is a measure of the two aspects of grit: consistency of interests and perseverance of effort. While the majority of the past studies supported the two-factor model, some found cultural differences. Two studies were carried out to test the factor structure of the Grit-S in a sample of Mal...
Many studies have found that creativity tends to promote happiness, but the underlying mechanism remains unclear. This study proposed and tested a serial mediation model to investigate the relationships among creativity, problem solving, stress, and happiness on emerging adults and adolescents (N = 1,146). It is hypothesized that creativity is cond...
The 16-item Filial Piety Scale (FPS) has been used in different cultural groups to measure individuals’ loyalty to their family and traditions. Nevertheless, the language could be a barrier for Malay-speaking populations to fully comprehend the items. Thus, the present study translated the FPS into the Malay language (FPS-M) and examined psychometr...
The Sibling Inventory of Differential Experience (SIDE; Daniels & Plomin, 1985) is a self-report to assess children’s perception of parental differential treatment (PDT). Specifically, SIDE measures two specific constructs of PDT: control and affection. The present study applied both the traditional (twocorrelated-factor model) and novel (bifactor)...
Background of Study: Mental Health Knowledge Schedule (MAKS) is an instrument to assess knowledge about mental health issues commonly used in English-speaking countries.
Objectives: The present study translated the MAKS into Malay language (MAKS-M) and investigate its reliability in the Malaysian context among secondary school teachers.
Methods...
The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS; Zimet, Dahlem, Zimet, & Farley, 1988) is widely used to assess the three sources of social support (family, friends, and significant other). Previous studies on Malaysian samples support the three-subscale structure of the MSPSS using exploratory factor analysis. However, few studies ha...
