It is evident from the literature, that leadership behaviour is one, if not the most important aspect of organisational climate and ethical climate, and therefore, impacts perceived corporate responsibility, perceive organisational justice, P-O fit, organisational identification and ultimately an individual’s propensity to stay or to leave the organisation. It is hypothesised that ethical leadership would have a mediating effect on the relationships mentioned above. Ethical culture, ethical climate and ethical leadership (perceived) need to be enhanced and maintained in terms of the on-going display of moral virtuous behaviour by top management, supervisors and peers. This, combined with formal ethics mechanisms, which are required to build a strong ethical climate and culture, will ultimately result in positive individual organisational behaviour. One outcome of this study would be an empirically confirmed model, explaining the nature and extent of the relationships between ethical climate and ethical culture (including ethical leadership) and employee behaviour and attitudes in the workplace. The results will be used in the development of related strategies to enhance positive organisational behaviour.
