In the context of a circular economy, special attention should be paid to the rational management of biodegradable waste. Currently, a potentially valuable waste material, rich in ingredients available to plants, is digestate, obtained as a by-product in agricultural biogas plants. The presented study aimed to determine the impact of digestate (DIG...
Combustion of woody biomass in professional bioheating plants to generate heat and reduce the dust emissions from this process results in the formation of a huge mass of woody biomass ash (WBA). Due to WBA’s rich chemical composition and the assumptions of the circular economy, this mineral material should be used for environmental purposes to reco...
The present study aimed to determine the influence of organic amendments (OAs) on neutralizing the harmful effect of copper (Cu) on black mustard (Sinapis nigra L.). In a pot experiment, three levels of copper pollution were used: 200, 400, and 600 mg Cu kg−1, against a control without Cu. The soil was amended with three types of OAs: pine bark (PB...
Nowadays, we have observed the dynamic development of bio-heating plants that use wood biomass for heating or energy purposes. The result of this process is a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions as well as in the production of biomass ash (BA). Despite the waste nature of BA, it should be carefully analyzed and assessed for various applications,...
This research concerned the possibilities of the natural management of ash, which is a waste product obtained in the process of burning wood chips in a bio-heating plant. The basis of the research was a pot experiment, which was carried out in a greenhouse of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, Poland. This experiment dealt with the inf...
Poultry farming involves the production of poultry manures (PMs), which, if properly managed, are excellent organic soil amendments. Poultry farms generally do not have adequate arable land, and therefore, valuable fertilizer becomes a problematic waste. During the production and storage of PMs, odorous VOCs, NH4, H2S, and potent greenhouse gases s...
In phytoremediation processes implemented in highly contaminated areas, there is a high risk of contaminant toxicity during the germination of freshly sown plants. In such conditions, it is recommended to support phytoremediation by using neutralizing additives. The present study aimed at assessing the effect of the addition of mineral neutralizers...
The aim of the investigation was to evaluate the response of plants, using black mustard (Brassica nigra L. Koch) as a model plant, to soil contamination with copper (0, 200, 400, 600 mg Cu kg−1 of soil), and to determine the effectiveness of the Cu immobilization with mineral neutralizing materials, such as lime, clay and zeolite. The plant yield...
The paper discusses the problem of the impact of the road on the content of heavy metals in soil and the impact of land use on limiting the migration of these xenobiotics. The area submitted to the research stretched along Sielska Street in Olsztyn, which is a section of the DK 16 route connecting Olsztyn and Ostróda. This area varies in terms of l...
The purpose of this study has been to determine the impact of selected gasoline stations on the content of trace elements in soil and roadside vegetation in areas adjacent to these facilities. Four gasoline stations chosen for analysis were located in Olsztyn, along streets
exposed to urban and transportation pressure. The material for analyses wa...
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of soil contamination with Hg on the yield and chemical composition of Avena sativa L. Mercury was incorporated into soil in amounts: 0, 50, 100 and 150 mg Hg kg-1 of soil. Zeolite, lime and bentonite were used to alleviate the soil contamination. Plants cultivated in Hg-polluted soil showed gro...
Paper production is among the industrial branches generating significant amounts of waste. Organic waste from paper manufacturing is mostly used in gardening and agriculture or converted for energy purposes, while inorganic waste, including green liquor dregs (GLD), is usually deposited on landfills. GLD has highly alkaline reaction, suggestive of...
A field experiment was established in 1972 on Luvisol. Three types of fertilizers – cattle manure (CM), cattle slurry (CS) and mineral fertilizers were used. CS was applied in the following doses: I – balanced with CM in terms of the amount of introduced total nitrogen and II – balanced with CM in terms of the amount of introduced total organic car...

Copper is an essential trace element in living organisms, but its excess interferes with metabolic transformations in plant, animal and human cells. The uptake of copper from contaminated soils can be regulated, for example, by soil liming or application of other substances which enhance soil adsorption capacity and Cu binding in the substrate. The...

Our results indicate that the starch content in tubers of potato cultivar was highly dependent on meteorological conditions during cultivation, storage time and potassium fertilization. Potassium used in a dose higher than 99 kg K∙ha-1 resulted in a decrease in starch content. During storage period as a result of transpiration followed the increase...
Environmental pollution from arsenic may affect crop yield and its quality. Its increased content in soils may come from natural
minerals from which the soil was formed; on the other hand, unfortunately, the increase may have an anthropogenic background.
Arsenic may be released to the environment in a variety of ways, but usually with wastewater, s...

Dear Research Gate Users,
I am searching for method of soil sample preparation for PAHs determination with GCMS. My GCMS equipment is Agilent 7890/5977A, GC column HP-5MS UI. Some of advisors suggest me use a method of Agilent: Analysis of PAHs in Soil with Agilent BondElut HPLC-FLD (attachment). At the end of the method he proposed me to evaporate ACN solvent using sample concentrator and dilute sample using solvent dedicated to GC-MS.
Thank you in advance,
Andrej
