In Argentina, a classical biological control program for the Eucalyptus bronze bug, Thaumastocoris peregrinus (Carpintero & Dellapé), with the egg parasitoid Cleruchoides noackae Lin & Huber (Hymenoptera: Mymaridae) was initiated in 2014. Parasitized eggs of the pest were imported from Uruguay, and a founder colony was established under laboratory...

The developmental time, adult longevity, survival, and fecundity of Ascogaster quadridentata reared on Cydia pomonella were studied at 25 ± 2 ºC and natural lighting. Longevity was measured in different conditions: water; water and honey; and water, honey and host. Developmental time from egg to adult was 43.67 ± 0.75 days. Honey had a significant...

Glycaspis brimblecombei is an invasive insect species that specifically feeds on Eucalyptus leaves. Native from Australia, this species has spread to several countries becoming a major Eucalyptus pest. Even though its specific endoparasitoid Psyllaephagus bliteus has been present in Argentina since 2005, little is known about its ecology in the reg...

Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) is a key pest of tomato crops. Tupiocoris cucurbitaceus (Spinola) (Hemiptera: Miridae) is a neotropical predator capable of consuming T. absoluta eggs. We evaluated the life history traits of T. cucurbitaceus on three different diets: T. absoluta eggs from irradiated parental males and untreated pa...

Abstract. The “blue gum chalcid”, Leptocybe invasa is a pest of eucalyptus worldwide. It has an Australian origin and has expanded into Asia, Europe, Africa and America. L. invasa females were reported from South America in the last decade. Thelytokous parthenogenesis is the most common reproductive mechanism of this pest. However, male adults have...

The green lacewing Chrysoperla externa is a widespread species in the Neotropical region that occurs in different habitats. Its presence in Eucalyptus plantations infested with Glycaspis brimblecombei (Hemiptera: Aphalaridae) and Thaumastocoris peregrinus (Hemiptera: Thaumastocoridae) suggests that this lacewing might feed on one or both exotic pes...

The predatory bug Orius insidiosus (Say) (Rhynchota Anthocoridae) is marketed in Argentina mainly to control thrips in greenhouse sweet pepper and used along with a recommended pesticide application schedule to simultaneously manage the presence of other pests. The accurate assessment of the compatibility of pesticides with predator activity is key...

Thaumastocoris peregrinus Carpintero & Dellapé (Hemiptera: Thaumastocoridae) is a small sap-sucking insect that feeds on Eucalyptus L’Hér. leaves. Although it is native to Australia, it currently has a global distribution and it is considered as one of the big five pests of eucalypts around the world. We described the development of T. peregrinus p...

The red gum lerp psyllid G lycaspis brimblecombei is an invasive insect species, native from A ustralia, that specifically feeds on E ucalyptus trees. It has invaded several countries throughout the world. In A rgentina, it was first recorded in 2005, although little is known about its ecology in the region. We assessed G . brimblecombei population...

Aphidiinae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) parasitoids of aphids (Hemiptera: Aphidi-dae) in the main pepper producing areas in the province of Corrientes, Argentina ABSTRACT. The pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) is one of the most important vegetables produced in greenhouses in the province of Corrientes. Aphids (Hemiptera: Aphididae) are among the most impor...

Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) is one of the most devastating pests of tomato. We studied whether partially sterile T. absoluta males and fully sterile females were capable of suppressing wild populations of this moth in semi-controlled conditions. After irradiating T. absoluta pupae with 200 Gy, emerged males and females were r...

T uta absoluta ( M eyrick) ( L epidoptera: G elechiidae) is one of the most devastating pests of tomato crops. We studied the acceptability and suitability of eggs laid by irradiated T . absoluta pairs to parasitism by the parasitoids T richogramma nerudai and T richogramma pretiosum . T richogramma absoluta pupae were irradiated with X ‐radiation...

ABSTRACT. Main eucalyptus pests and their entomophagous natural enemies were surveyed in two localities of Buenos Aires province, Argentina. Pest abundance was quantified on different Eucalyptus species and the entomophagous insects associated were registered in order to identify interactions which can be used in biological control strategies. A pr...

Banker plants with Aphidius colemani were tested in greenhouse for control of Myzus persicae on arugula and sweet pepper crops and compared to inoculative releases of parasitoids. Banker plants system consisted of pots of oat (non-crop plant) infested with Rhopalosiphum padi (non-pest herbivore). The non-pest herbivore serves as an alternative host...
