During the Stalin’s era criminology was prohibited as a science in the USSR, but situation changed greatly at the time of mid XX century ottepel. Criminology was really reopened and vast resources were spent to reconcile the distance in criminological knowledge that existed between Soviet Union and Western countries at the time. Groundbreaking decisions were made at the beginning of 1960s: criminology was developed by a centralized structure of scientific and academic institutions, with a strict project planning and sufficient financing. At some Universities were created specialized research institutions, one of them was the Voronezh State University, where in 1963 was created the Criminological research laboratory. Research staff of the Voronezh Criminological laboratory worked on assembling legal related data and on computerization of this data. Several prominent projects on the studying and predicting criminality of the region as well as on the developing of cooperation between legal practitioners and University. Research papers of the Laboratory were innovative and respected some of them were mentioned in reputable US legal magazines. Laboratory existed less than ten years, and its staff was one of that pioneers, who began to work in spheres of science and technology, data analysis and empirical sociology. But in today’s Russia research experience of the laboratory is disremembered. The aim of my work is to restore the tribute to the memory of Voronezh Criminological research laboratory.
