Afforestation success is measured by the tree establishment and growth capacity which contribute to a range of ecosystem services. In the Mongolian steppe, Populus sibirica and Ulmus pumila have been tested as candidate species for large afforestation programs, by analyzing their response to a combination of irrigation and fertilization treatments....
Cover cropping is practiced in conservation agriculture to preserve soil and water resources, alleviate soil compaction, sequester organic carbon, and control weeds. Meanwhile, cover cropping is rarely used in forestry, probably due to the lack of awareness of this management practice. In this short essay, we discuss the concept of utilizing cover...
The present study focuses on the cambium and the anatomy of secondary tissues (xylem – wood and phloem) of Siberian poplar (Populus sibirica) and Siberian elm (Ulmus pumila) grown in a plantation in the semi-arid Mongolian steppe. Stem and root microcores from both species were collected and subsequently processed to obtain cross-sections for light...
In the past decades, numerous landscaping efforts in the urban and suburban areas of Skopje have provided a diversified presence of allochthonous woody species. From the registered 206 allochthonous woody plants, in the past 25 years, 65 species (19 Gymnospermae and 46 Angiospermae) have been the focus of various research and monitoring efforts, in...
Mechanical stimuli, together with the corresponding plant perception mechanisms and the finely tuned thigmomorphogenetic response, has been of scientific and practical interest since the mid-17th century. As an emerging field, there are many challenges in the research of mechanical stress. Indeed, studies on different plant species (annual/perennia...
Changing ecosystem conditions and diverse socio-economical events have contributed to an ingrained presence of non-native tree species (NNTs) in the natural and cultural European landscapes. Recent research endeavors have focused on different aspects of NNTs such as legislation, benefits, and risks for forestry, emphasizing that large knowledge gap...
Previous studies report that the asymmetric response, observed along the main poplar woody bent root axis, was strongly related to both the type of mechanical forces (compression or tension) and the intensity of force displacement. Despite a large number of targets that have been proposed to trigger this asymmetry, an understanding of the comprehen...
Natural ecosystems and agricultural production have been threatened
by multifaceted global environmental changes. Soil degradation,
extreme drought and flooding events, shifting climatic
patterns and other challenges have prompted many disciplines
within plant science to pivot to find solutions. Accordingly, root
research has expanded from fundamen...
Root phenotyping describes methods for measuring root properties, or traits. While root phenotyping can be challenging, it is advancing quickly. In order for the field to move forward, it is essential to understand the current state and challenges of root phenotyping, as well as the pressing needs of the root biology community.
In this letter, we p...
Although the presence of root anatomical structures of young Pinus ponderosa seedlings grown in containers of contrasting volume (164 vs. 7000 cm 3) was similar, seedlings reared 60 days in the large container had more vascular cambium although the xylem thickness was similar. In addition, seedlings in large containers had nearly twice as many resi...
Climate challenges impose the need for successful afforestation strategies which will increase the amount of carbon sequestered from the atmosphere. In practice, this means evaluation of suitable plant species and management practices for the long-term effects to prove beneficial. In the present study we employed a clasmometric approach to look int...
This article discusses the relationship between a consumer lifestyle and the environment. The willingness to adapt to a sustainable lifestyle was tested through a questionnaire among students of Mendel University in Brno, who are theoretically well-informed people. Overall, 417 students answered, i.e., 19% of the respondents. The students generally...
Abstract In this study we investigated the dynamics of growth and quality features of 1+0 Austrian Pine (AP; Pinus nigra Arn.), Scots Pine (SP; Pinus sylvestris L.) and Maritime Pine (MP; Pinus pinaster Aiton) seedlings in containers Yukosad (YS; hard plastic, 75cm3, 610 seedlings m-2) and Siset (SS; gray cardboard with white coating, 128 cm3, 589...
¿Amarillas o transparentes?
Changing climate is expected to have the global effect on natural ecosystems, including the Mediterranean basin, which among other issues is estimated to endure the loss of biodiversity. The consequences of such reduced biodiversity can directly affect major ecosystem functions and services, including biological pest control. Considering the import...
The importance and benefits from a diverse and well-balanced community of canopy arthropods are undeniable in terms of pest management and overall agroecosystem functionality, but still a suitable monitoring methodology for them has not been well defined, especially in perennial crops. Field sampling conducted in Crete, Greece during autumn and spr...

I am looking for a protocol to prepare Fe DTPA, but not even sure one exists at this point. I wonder if the Fe-EDTA protocol can be used, exchanging the EDTA with DTPA but I was not able to find any information on this. Any experience?
