Introduction
I am the Executive Associate Dean for Research, the August M. Watanabe Chair of Medical Research, and a Distinguished Professor at the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM). I am also the founding Director of the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI), a statewide institute supported by the US National Institutes of Health, and established in 2008 as a joint partnership between Indiana, Purdue and Notre Dame Universities. I obtained my medical degree from St. John’s Medical College and Ph.D. in Neuroscience at Indiana University. I have served in many leadership roles in managing clinical services and research programs at IU and have been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health for basic, clinical and translational research since 1989. I have authored more than 200 peer reviewed publications.
