Introduction
My research in innovation economics focuses on the dynamics of innovation in rural and peripheral territories. More precisely, I question the respective role of local and non-local factors in innovation processes, namely material and immaterial resources and the relational networks of innovative actors. I work more particularly on environmental innovations and the circular economy (especially methanation) as well as on the development processes of territorialised agricultural and food chains.

A growing literature highlights the development of specific innovative patterns in peripheral areas and the need to better understand how and why firms can innovate despite the absence of agglomeration effects. These peripheral areas can, among other things, offer local resources (material and immaterial) for developing environmental innovations. T...
This chapter aims to further our understanding of the governance mechanisms that might best support a territorialised agroecological transition (TAET). The challenge of governance is to coordinate the actions of a multitude of actors and to integrate different dimensions of agroecology. This challenge is portrayed as important in the sustainable ag...
Rural areas are generally considered as less innovative because of the limited agglomeration of activities found within them. There has been little research on innovation in rural areas, whereas there are many environmental innovation projects in these areas. In this study we propose an analytical framework to examine the role of internal organizat...
Acting on the rescaling of food systems for more sustainability calls for the deployment of integrated policies, i.e., consideration of the different dimensions of the food system, the different components and actors of the food chains, and the breakdown of the usual “silos” of policy-making. To encourage local food policies, the French government...
This paper questions the implementation of sustainability standards in five brands established by farmers collectives located in Occitania, France. It analyses the content of the standards and their governance. It is based on a qualitative approach using semi-structured interviews and an analysis of documents regarding each brand’ standards. It use...
Pourtant,...
The circular economy is a new economic model that breaks with the linear model. It is more respectful of the environment and is often presented as an opportunity for sustainable development. From a literature review on this issue, the objective of our article is to focus on the territorial dimension of the circular economy. We present the main issu...
Facilitating the circulation of resources and knowledge in territories is a key dimension in the transition to a circular economy. The purpose of this article is to identify the factors and dynamics of development of circularity at meso-economic level through the study of the eco-innovations on which it is based. We study collective methanization p...

Involved in tackling climate change, short food supply chains (SFSCs) are seeking improve-ments in their logistic plans. Actually, farmers are increasingly entering into innovation processes. But their contribution to greenhouse gas emissions reduction remains controversial. Based on the assumption of a variety in innovation trajectories, the prese...
Short food supply chains (SFSCs) are often seen as being capable of making a valuable contribution to the provisioning of cities from an environmentally, economically, and socially sustainable perspective. However, there are doubts as to whether these supply chains deserve this reputation. They involve varied needs and logistical challenges for bot...

Supplying urban areas gives rise to a series of logistical problems and requires measures to limit the undesirable effects related to goods’ transport. Food products are concerned by these questions. These products may be part of international supply chains or of short supply chains operating within limited geographical frameworks and with few or n...
Among the many virtues associated with short supply chains, the reduction of transport and logistics needs and the use of alternative coordination process are considered as potential positive effects for sustainable transport policies. This article aims at questioning this affirmation by studying different types of short supply chains, in several s...
The main purpose of this research is to provide insights about the compatibility of Alternative Food Network (AFN) with the management of flows recommended by research on urban logistics and applied by some urban policies in Northern countries. The research guiding these policies highlight the need for a more rational and optimized flow of goods in...
Many studies have shown the need for improvement of the global performance of short food supply chains. Logistics appears to be one of the solutions to reach this goal. We thus try to understand which are the key drivers of performance of these supply chains and what could be done to improve it, considering these key drivers. Considering that stand...
Local food supply chains seem now to be considered as a serious alternative to global ones in terms of sustainability. A lot of initiatives are developed and they often are associated with economical, social and environmental benefits. The main objective of this paper is to discuss the reality of these advantages. They are notably considered as a w...
