On the 31st of December 2019, China reported several pneumonia-like infections in Wuhan's Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market. Ten days later, a novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) was announced by the Chinese center for disease control (CCDC). At that time, the genome sequence was publicly made available. The genome sequence analysis of the newly identified...

There has been a large demand for producing and utilizing eco-friendly fuel during the past few decades. In this regard, proposing an alternative to fossil fuel has to be judged based on its availability, and sustainability. Biodiesel is one of the realistic candidates to be a fossil fuel substitute. Albeit, biodiesel production is not straight for...

Vanadium oxide has been largely exploited as a catalyst in many industrial applications. In this article, we show the synthesis of vanadium oxide (V2O5): Nickel Oxide (NiO) composite using sol-gel method at optimum conditions. The composite nanomaterials were used to remove methyl orange from waste water via harnessing the photocatalytic activity o...

There have been a lot of concerns regarding the pollution in aquatic resources. Since then, there has been a remarkable scientific work in order to remove all sorts of pollutants and offer a reasonably clean environment. In this effort, we show synthesis and characterization of activated carbon (AC) from date pits by various thermal treatments and...

Al-Mishraq sulfur mine (25 miles to the north of Qayyarah in Mosul province, Iraq) has been considered as the largest sulfur mine in the world. The site has caused two catastrophic events in 2003 and 2016 due to combustion of elemental. sulfur. The release of about 600 k tons of sulfur dioxide. (SO2) led to the formation. of the largest. non-volcan...

Chemistry laboratories have been classified as dangerous workplaces as many hazardous chemicals are used within. Some of these chemicals have a high risk score and dealing with them without taking into considerations any potential damage to properties/people is absolutely unprofessional and irresponsible. In this regard, in order to offer a reasona...

The forensic DNA facility at Al-Nahrain University was established in 2011 with a clear message to be as a training and research center in Iraq. Iraq is still suffering from the existence of many mass graves in different provinces, and complicated criminal cases. Predominantly, the forensic DNA facility will offer a solid platform to support forens...

Herein, we report the using of atenolol drug as a green corrosion inhibitor for zinc metal. Corrosion inhibitory effect of atenolol on zinc in 1M HCl was explored using the gravimetric method. The findings revealed that atenolol inhibited zinc corrosion in HCl solution and corrosion rate decreased with increasing the atenolol concentration. The opt...

Question
I have a CdSe QDs sample with a trap state PL in the range of 500-700 nm. As you might be aware of, upon passivation, this trap state PL may go away and this can be seen from the emission spectrum. Do you think that excitation spectrum can be useful too to understand the difference in the electronic states of the passivated and the poorly passivated ones? Thanks
Question
The surface chemistry of quantum dots (QDs) highly affect their photoluminescence (PL) properties. The single particle PL can be altered upon changing the surface chemistry. The latter will be changed if the surface passivation degree changes, and at nanomolar concentration ligands may desorb from the surface and that will significantly decrease the quantum yield of QDs.
Is that one of the reasons why most of the single particle work in the literature is focusing on the core-shell QDs as they possess a reasonably stable PL. Can anyone give a reasonable justification why most of the literature looked at the core-shell over the cores. Thanks
Question
Is there any experimental evidence for quantum yield/photoluminescence reduction of naphthalene diimide dyes as a result of pi-pi stacking?
