The challenge to provide a powerful instrument with a high energy conversion is of a great importance to our modern society, not only in terms of conversion but in high-capacity storage derived by the increase for energy demand. In addition, the environmental impact of these new technologies to create a green and sustainable environment. One of the...
On the 31st of December 2019, China reported several pneumonia-like infections
in Wuhan's Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market. Ten days later, a novel
coronavirus (2019-nCoV) was announced by the Chinese center for disease
control (CCDC). At that time, the genome sequence was publicly made available.

There has been a large demand for producing and utilizing eco-friendly fuel during the past few decades. In this regard, proposing an alternative to fossil fuel has to be judged based on its availability, and sustainability. Biodiesel is one of the realistic candidates to be a fossil fuel substitute. Albeit, biodiesel production is not straight for...
society has an interest in promoting ethical behavior in its scientific community, learning institutions and chemical enterprises may minimize training and education programs on chemical ethics.Al Rodda et al have previously emphasized the importance of robust scenario-based training that provides low-risk opportunities to practice ethical behavior...
Teaching and research laboratory staff members are continuously and hardly working to report any incident took place in their facilities. Furthermore, these incidents have been extensively investigated in depth with explicit report of the potential reasons for these incidents as well as suggesting feasible precautions to avoid them in the future. H...
The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, Al-Khwarizmi College of Engineering at Baghdad University has lately renovated its own research laboratories to comply with international safety measures and conduct undergraduate and postgraduate research. In this regard, the department has harnessed some amenities within the college to establ...
The design and synthesis of porous organic materials that have increasing physical and chemical characteristics have been discussed. For example, a variety of porous organic polymers, metal–organic frameworks, conjugated microporous polymers, and polymers of intrinsic microporosity have been designed and synthesized using simple and efficient proce...
Vanadium oxide has been largely exploited as a catalyst in many industrial applications. In this article, we show the synthesis of vanadium oxide (V2O5): Nickel Oxide (NiO) composite using sol-gel method at optimum conditions. The composite nanomaterials were used to remove methyl orange from waste water via harnessing the photocatalytic activity o...
There have been a lot of concerns regarding the pollution in aquatic resources. Since then, there has been a remarkable scientific work in order to remove all sorts of pollutants and offer a reasonably clean environment. In this effort, we show synthesis and characterization of activated carbon (AC) from date pits by various thermal treatments and...
The department of Chemistry is one of the main academic departments in the College of Science at Al-Nahrain University. The department awards Bachelor degree in Chemistry and Master degree in Analytical, Physical, Organic, Inorganic, and Biochemistry. Chemistry department since its establishment has twenty one laboratories within. Fifteen of them a...
Al-Mishraq sulfur mine (25 miles to the north of Qayyarah in Mosul province, Iraq) has been considered as the largest sulfur mine in the world. The site has caused two catastrophic events in 2003 and 2016 due to combustion of elemental. sulfur. The release of about 600 k tons of sulfur dioxide. (SO2) led to the formation. of the largest. non-volcan...
Hydrogen has been largely exploited as an energy carrier particularly in fuel cells during recent years. Fuel cells are basically facilitate the capture of hydrogen and
converting hydrogen power into useful energy. Interestingly, fuel cells have found their way into wider range of applications, such as backup power, power for remote
locations, dist...

Chemistry laboratories have been classified as dangerous workplaces as many hazardous chemicals are used within. Some of these chemicals have a high risk score and dealing with them without taking into considerations any potential damage to properties/people is absolutely unprofessional and irresponsible. In this regard, in order to offer a reasona...
The forensic DNA facility at Al-Nahrain University was established in 2011 with a clear message to be as a training and research center in Iraq. Iraq is still suffering from the existence of many mass graves in different provinces, and complicated criminal cases. Predominantly, the forensic DNA facility will offer a solid platform to support forens...
Herein, we report the using of atenolol drug as a green corrosion inhibitor for zinc metal. Corrosion inhibitory effect of atenolol on zinc in 1M HCl was explored using the gravimetric method. The findings revealed that atenolol inhibited zinc corrosion in HCl solution and corrosion rate decreased with increasing the atenolol concentration. The opt...
There is no doubt that laboratories are extremely dangerous places as many hazardous materials are dealt with. It is mandatory to take safety precautions in laboratories at all times with no excuses. Herein, we report an incident took place in a research laboratory at Department of Chemistry Al-Nahrain University as a result of dealing with some ch...
The effect of 3-[(4-BROMO-5-METHYLTHIOPHEN-2-YL)METHYLENE
AMINO]-2-ISOPROPYL QUINAZOLIN-4(3H)-ONE as corrosion inhibitor was studied using weight loss measurement. The rate of corrosion was found to be decreased with corrosion inhibitor increased.
Hydrofluoric acid has been one of the important chemicals in the industry. In Iraq, there is a considerable consumption of it in petrochemicals and detergents industry. However, so far, there is no genuine evaluation for the hazards and any prospective procedures to minimise the risk of it. In this regard, we show here some accidents took place in...

I have a CdSe QDs sample with a trap state PL in the range of 500-700 nm. As you might be aware of, upon passivation, this trap state PL may go away and this can be seen from the emission spectrum. Do you think that excitation spectrum can be useful too to understand the difference in the electronic states of the passivated and the poorly passivated ones? Thanks
The surface chemistry of quantum dots (QDs) highly affect their photoluminescence (PL) properties. The single particle PL can be altered upon changing the surface chemistry. The latter will be changed if the surface passivation degree changes, and at nanomolar concentration ligands may desorb from the surface and that will significantly decrease the quantum yield of QDs.
Is that one of the reasons why most of the single particle work in the literature is focusing on the core-shell QDs as they possess a reasonably stable PL. Can anyone give a reasonable justification why most of the literature looked at the core-shell over the cores. Thanks
Is there any experimental evidence for quantum yield/photoluminescence reduction of naphthalene diimide dyes as a result of pi-pi stacking?
