Position
  • Urban Tree Audit Personnel
Description
  • I was part a team that carried out a pilot project to establish the tree diversity and biomass of Kampala City, and map it. I was involved in field activities, data analysis, reporting and community engagements within this project. Together we established a dataset that became a basis for the justification of an EU-funded project aiming to make Kampala City, a low-carbon city.

Budongo Conservation Field Station
Position
  • Project coordinator
Description
  • I coordinated the data collection activities of this large-scale Nutrient Manipulation experiment, whose goal was to identify which nutrients limit forest ecosystem processes. Among this were above- and below-ground biomass measurements and nutrient turn-over assessments, and data analysis. I was also involved in the financial management and coordination of field teams, and the lab work of this project.

Sebitoli Chimpanzee Project
Position
  • Project Coordinator
Description
  • I am responsible for coordinating chimpanzee research involving habituation, behavior studies and health monitoring. I also monitor community engagement projects aimed at reducing human-wildlife conflicts around Kibale National park, and increasing livelihood options among households, for sustainable conservation of wildlife and the forest species.

Global deforestation and forest degradation threaten the sustainability of natural and human systems. Forest landscape restoration , through active approaches such as plantations, woodlots, boundary planting, and agroforestry, and passive approaches like exclosures, presents an opportunity to mitigate adverse effects, enhance ecosystem service reco...

Tropical forest productivity is increasingly reported to be nutrient limited, which may affect its response to seasonal droughts. Yet experimental evidence on nutrient limitation from Afrotropical forests remains rare. We conducted an ecosystem-scale, full factorial nitrogen (N)–phosphorus (P)–potassium (K) addition experiment in a moist forest in...

Every evening, chimpanzees build sleeping “nests” in trees. In some studied communities, individuals appear to be selective about the tree species used, which has led researchers to hypothesize whether chimpanzees prefer trees that repel troublesome insects or/and that provide comfortable and stable structures. We investigate these hypotheses, or a...

Background Every evening, chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) build a sleeping platform so called “nest” by intertwining branches of tree. Most of chimpanzees’ communities studied have a preference for tree species in which they nest. As female mosquitoes are feeding on the blood of their host at nighttime, chimpanzees may prevent being disturbed and bit...

Experimental evidence of nutrient limitations on primary productivity in Afrotropical forests is rare and globally underrepresented yet are crucial for understanding constraints to terrestrial carbon uptake. In an ecosystem‐scale nutrient manipulation experiment, we assessed the early responses of tree growth rates among different tree sizes, taxon...
