Despite its long tradition in social psychology, we consider that Cognitive Dissonance Theory presents serious flaws concerning its methodology which question the relevance of the theory, limit breakthroughs, and hinder the evaluation of its core hypotheses. One of the most popular experimental paradigms used to produce such attitude change is the induced-compliance paradigm. Despite it...

Les modèles basés sur la consistance cognitive ont connu plusieurs développements récents qui replacent la théorie de la dissonance cognitive au cœur de nombreux débats. We tested the relevance of using choices in an interactive novel as an assessment of risk-taking behaviors. We compared choices during the interactive novel to real-life risk-taking behaviors and to two risk-taking instruments. Our results support the use of interactive novels as a measure of risk-taking behaviors.
