Introduction
I am working on comparative history of European opera theatre under dictatorships and during World War II. By using methods of economic and cultural history, as well as theatre studies, I attempt at analyzing opera houses both as important objects and subjects of cultural policies (in their wider understanding). I look beyond the repertoire and artistic leadership, examining theatres as social and economic actors that commanded significant monetary, political and symbolic capital.
