Unemployment among young people is one of the most important challenges of the European labor market. It is also a strategic issue of the Polish labor market. The overall objective of this research is to investigate the role of HRM in the specific context of small and medium-sized enterprises that initiated international operations shortly after their inception. In particular, we explore HRM practices adopted by these entities after their entry to foreign markets. The specific questions addressed by this project are as follows: how important HRM is in these companies regarding the specific challenges they face; what configurations of HRM practices they use in respect of their different trajectories of post-entry internationalisation; how these practices contribute to company performance; in what way HRM practices adopted in these entities resemble the approaches followed by late internationalisers. To answer these questions we adopted a mixed research approach; the empirical data stems from the survey (in SMEs operating internationally) and in-depth interviews with decision-makers in early internationalised SMEs
