The discipline of strategic management focuses mainly on gaining and maintaining the competitive advantage as well as the enhancement of enterprise’s overall performance. There is no doubt that the strategic management tools and techniques are important parts of the strategic management process. They are designed to support managers in all stages of strategic management process. However, the up-to-date research on these strategic tools and techniques pertains mainly to the level of their usage and classification. Thus, there has already been a highlight by academics on the need to review the role and importance of strategic management tools and techniques. Hence, this study serves to fill the existing gap between theoretical constructs and the evidence of practical usage of strategic management tools and techniques in enterprises. Meanwhile, there is also a lack of understanding whether their usage impacts on the gaining of competitive advantage. Being one of its kind in Kosovar context, on top of identifying the range of strategic management tools and techniques currently in use by Kosovar enterprises, this study also tracks and analyzes their role in the creation of competitive advantage and in enhancing the overall performance of these enterprises. Thus, one of the primary research objectives of this study is to establish if the usage of strategic management tools and techniques creates competitive advantage.
