This paper introduces a new scheduling approach that optimizes truck appointments, truck ser-
vice order, and container relocations at the yard through a bi-objective IP model with a lexico-
graphical objective function. The proposed approach serves as a proactive decision support
system that coordinates truck appointments with container handling...
In many container terminals, containers are piled vertically and horizontally in the terminal yard, limited mainly by the dimensions of the yard crane. Import and export containers are typically stacked separately. External trucks can access the terminal to pick up an import container only after making an appointment reserving a pickup time. To red...
In container terminals (CTs), containers are stacked above each other due to the limited yard area space used for storing the containers. External trucks usually submit appointment requests to pick up their import containers from the CT. However, some containers are not on the top stack and are blocked by other containers when trucks arrive at the...
Smart service systems have been dealing with various wicked social and cultural problems by providing diverse solutions for society. Cargo transportation is one of the most challenging issues in logistics; in this paper, we explore multiple stakeholders’ information environments surrounding containerized cargo transportation by a design thinking ap...
Due to the continual increase of the global containerized trade, many container terminals face the problem of high demands that their current resource capacity cannot afford. The consequences of such situation are not only the long queues of trucks at the entrance gates and storage yards but also the large turnaround times of trucks. In response, T...
In Container Terminals (CTs), many containers are daily delivered by a large number of External Trucks (ETs) which lead to several issues such as long waiting times at gates and yards, harmful emissions, and low productivity of the CTs. To resolve these issues, truck appointment systems are used to schedule appointments of ETs and achieve more bala...

The Internet of Things (IoT) is already transforming business and industry all over the world. By the year 2020, approximately 80 billion connected devices will be operating within the IoT, accord...
In Container Terminals, managing the external truck arrivals is one of the essential managerial activities that, typically, the terminal operators conduct continuously on the short term using a Truck Appointment System (TAS). However, the trucking companies are influenced by the developed appointments and schedules which affect their operations and...
Given the rising growth in containerized trade, Container Terminals (CTs) are facing truck congestion at the
gate and yard. Truck congestion problems not only result in long queues of trucks at the terminal gates and
yards but also leads to long turn times of trucks and environmentally harmful emissions. As a result, many
terminals are seeking to s...
In this paper, we synthesize an effective communication prototype that deals with some challenges in the container-trucking sector in Egypt, mainly multiple stakeholders’ communication problems associated with waiting time. Container-trucking is one of the most important activities in logistics management. However, Information and Communication Tec...
In container terminal operations, the delay of containers delivery is a common problem that confronts both the terminal operator and the customers represented by the trucking companies. One source of this delay is due to the long waiting time of the transporting trucks at container terminals (CTs). In this paper, the problem of long turn time for e...

From the perspective of operations management, what are the main differences between the online and real-time scheduling? what are the role of "time" in each ?
I need to investigate the statistics about a research problem to build up a a historical trend. Is the google trend (https://trends.google.com/trends/?geo=US ) very general to be used in scientific publications trending !
If I have a mathematical model , which part of this model evaluates the queue length to be used in the same model in getting an optimal value for a certain cost objective function. I need to know what is the most accurate queuing evaluation method and how can i judge it. To the best of my knowledge, generally, I can evaluate this queue length using either deterministic or stochastic equations or integrating a simulation model with my mathematical model .shall I try all to be able to judge !!
Stochastic Modeling and Solution approaches from scratch !!
Since the hyper-loop technology is already came out and is being implemented right now, isn't it the time to start working on the supply chain management problems which, for sure, will face this new transportation supply chain technology ! Is not it very interesting and challenging too !
- What about allocation of the future hyper loop stations !!
- How both passenger and cargo hyper loops will be used efficiently and is it better (form economical and technical view) to use the same system for both !!
- Shall we design/build the hyper loop transportation system in an optimized way that makes it integrated with other conventional transportation systems to reduce cost and increase the added value? and in this case, we need integrated optimization systems in an early stages of design the hyper-loop supply chain systems.
- What about the energy consumption issues and the best power source to operate such new transportation system !
more and more question can arise in this interesting topic, and need to think about
a real hypperloop : https://hyperloop-one.com/
i use simulation to test a new proposed system . i study an existing system in maritime transport, and i want to propose a new system to be used to improve the performance of the existing one. what about validation and verification of such new proposed models.
