The study aims to create a geological model of the role of intracontinental volcanism in the northern Arabian Plate and the formation of various phases of silica in carbonate deposits on the surface of the Ratqa Formation (Early-Late Eocene) in the Western Desert of Iraq, as there are significant amounts of silica have previously mistakenly been at...
This chapter analyzed the spatial and temporal characteristics of sand dunes, focusing on the rates of creep and movement of both dunes and sand. The study area comprised four types of sand features: Barchan dunes, Longitudinal dunes, Nabkha, and Sand sheets. Hazard analysis of the sand dunes was conducted using a combination of remote sensing tech...
Estimation of total water availability has paramount importance in planning sustainable development of a region, particularly in arid water-scarce areas. Coarse-resolution of existing total water availability or terrestrial water storage anomaly (TWSA) data is the major limitation of their applications in different sectors. An attempt has been made...
Machine learning and remote sensing technologies can effectively investigate and monitor the dynamic features of dunes, sand accumulations, and environmental changes. However, the present article examines the performance of models constructed using various Linear SVM model implementations during the binary classification task. In R software, three...
In their article on the Rutbah and the Hussainiyat Formations, Tamar Agha et al. (2016) interpreted the depositional environments of the Cenomanian Rutbah Formation of the Western Desert of Iraq as that of continental meandering fluvial setting. On a recent study of the same outcrops by the present authors, we could not find a single evidence to su...
Most marshes in Iraq face several challenges as aquatic environments, including pollution by various chemical agents and heavy metals. The current study deal with an analysis of the water quality of Dalmaj marsh as one of the closed aquatic environments in the middle parts of Iraq located between latitudes 32ᵒ 05′ to 32ᵒ 23′N and longitudes 45ᵒ 10′...
One of the most common machine learning approaches is linear classification. Multithreading used in LIBLINEAR Library has become an important research topic for processing large datasets. Working in a multithreaded environment accelerates the training of large datasets and increases classification accuracy. This study examines multiple linear suppo...
Monitoring the propagation of dunes is essential for natural hazard management. Accurate dunes mapping is critical in this situation. Landscape elements such as vegetation, water, dunes, and built-up are commonly separated using spectral indices. The discovery of dune features using a spectral index is one of the most significant achievements in ea...
Sawa Lake is a historical, cultural, and environmental landmark of great importance in education and tourism. Its unique advantages make it a potential global natural heritage and geopark in 2021. The current research is devoted to investigate and assess the actual reasons behind the rapid decline of the water level of Sawa Lake, which has begun to...
Drought is a complex phenomenon that has severe impacts on the environment. Vegetation and its conditions are very sensitive to drought effects. This study aimed to monitor and assess the drought severity and its relationships to some ecological variables in ten districts of Erbil Governorate (Kurdistan Region), Iraq, throughout 20 years (1998-2017...
The presence of an economical solution to predict soil behaviour is essential for new construction areas. This paper aims to investigate the ultimate interpolation method for predicting the soil bearing capacity of An-Najaf city-Iraq based on field investigation information. Firstly, the engineering bearing capacity was calculated based on the in-s...
Geomorphological processes pose a risk that deserves attention and planning to avoid that, especially in the section near to east of Tuz bridge. This section of the valley facing a dramatic increase in gravel excavation and sorting of aggregates, consequence led to a change in the pattern of river branches flow from an anabranching river to a singl...
ABSTRACT
Oil seep samples from Abu-Jir Fault Zone (AJFZ) were geochemically characterized to determine the level of
biodegradation and the depositional environment of correlative source rocks. For this purpose, saturated and
aromatic biomarkers and stable carbon isotopes of thirteen samples were analyzed and measured. Saturated
hydrocarbons of...

Groundwater is an important resource that can be used for various purposes. Various factors can change the chemistry of the GW, such as the chemical composition of an aquifer as well as the leaching of human waste into groundwater. The study area is a barren land covered by some sabkhas, in addition to some agricultural fields. The study aims to as...
Noise refers to unwanted sound that causes great discomfort to the ears and is usually measured in decibels. Very high levels of sound above 100 dB cause permanent hearing loss. This study deals with the effect of noise in the academic areas of the University of Kufa, Kufa River Campus (Faculty of Urban Planning, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Archeolo...
Land cover information is essential in European Union spatial management, particularly that of invasive species, natural habitats, urbanization, and deforestation; therefore, the need for accurate and objective data and tools is critical. For this purpose, the European Union’s flagship program, the Corine Land Cover (CLC), was created. Intensive wo...
Seismic vulnerability is very important for buildings, especially old and dilapidated buildings that did not take into account the impact of earthquakes. In the past years, the seismic effect has not been taken into account, and recently Iraq has experienced a growing seismic activity. For this reason, it is crucial to create a seismic database for...

In the present research, radon gas concentration in the groundwater samples of the Abu-Jir region in Anbar governorate was measured by using Rad-7 detector. The highest radon gas level in the samples is up to 9.3 Bq/L, while the lowest level is 2.1 Bq/L, with an average of 6.44±1.8 Bq/L. The annual effective dose is varied from 33.945 μSv/y to 7.66...
Al-Adhaim dam basin is extended across the boundaries of Salahuddin, Kirkuk, and Sulaymaniyah provinces in the northern part of Iraq, covering an area of 11831 km 2. The area is covered mainly in most upperparts by sedimentary rocks of the lower Eocene to Pliocene ages. The lower parts are occupied by sheet runoff deposits from the Quaternary age....
The unified soil classification system (USCS) first proposed by Casagrande and subsequently developed by the Army Corps of Engineers. It widely used in many building codes and books. An-Najaf city is the most important city in Iraq due to its religious and spiritual value in the Muslim world, so it is fast expanding and continuous developing city i...
Iraq is located between latitudes 29o 00′ to 37o 15′N and longitudes 38o 45′ to 48o 25′E and covering an area of 438,320 km². The topography of Iraq consists of alluvial plain in the middle and south parts and desert plateau in the west as well as rising terrain to the mountain ranges in north and northeast parts of Iraq. The geographical location...
Iraq suffers from severe droughts, which are an inherent feature of its changing climate conditions. The shortage of water has a negative impact on agricultural land and is associated with a high risk of desertification. Thus, the identification of wetness conditions over a multi-year period is a challenging issue. In this paper, monthly and annual...
ET (Evapotranspiration) is one of the climate elements, which plays an important role in water balance, and effects on the ecosystem of any region. Therefore, many mathematical equations and algorithms have been found and designed to calculate and estimate values of evapotranspiration. Calculation methods are either based on data from meteorologica...

The process of dividing watersheds into sub-basin, I think it must be in accordance with specific criteria or rules. From our very simple knowledge, I think that the sub-basin is the catchments whose mainstream does not affect the order of the stream where it meets, which means the mainstream of sub-basin has lower order (according to Strahler Stream Order SSO). According to that, we can not consider a sub-basin that connects the mainstream of adjacent sub-basin and both have the same SSO. Please, if there are opinions that enrich the subject or references that can help us answer the question.
I am looking for a map in the resolution of Geological Formations, not according to the age of deposits in the format of shapefile or good resolution image. Thank you in advance.
